If I buy a Droid X from a third party vendor can I add it to my service on Verizon without losing my upgrades for those lines.

Thanks in advance for your input.

yes but you will have to have a qualifying data plan in order to activate it. Once you have the phone just call cs to activate it. I recommend doing this before you hand over payment just to make sure the esn is clean unless you buy the phone from someone you know and trust.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<The above is true if you buy from a third party person. If the third party is a verizon authorized dealer then the answer is no. I'm sorry I misunderstood the question until I reread it

I was thinking of buying from Newegg, they appear to have the cheapest price for new i the box units.

What is the asking price? Is the price with a contract extension?

The asking price is $549. No Contract extension or changes etc... According to what the information Newegg has. I will call Verizon and inquire with a CS agent.

If that is the asking price and there is no contract extension then it will not alter your current eligibility for upgrade. It's the same as if you were buying the phone from a friend.

You can save a couple hundred bucks by picking one up on Ebay. The full retail price from Verizon after sales tax for me is $605. I got my DroidX brand new in box never activated before for $399.99 with free priority shipping. So I saved $205, still got a new DroidX in box with UPC intact and didn't have to extend my contract to do it. :D

Maybe verizon had changed it's policy but when my standard phone broke I picked up a motorola q for cheap to get by on, I was able to activate it without a data plan until I got my upgrade.

As long as you don't renew your contract with a smartphone you don't have to have the data plan

Ebay prices are now about $350. got the esn number first, called verizon to make sure it was legit, and got a new phone for $200 ofF retail. No 2 year contract, on month to month.

I bought one brand new off craigslist for $375. That's how I got my Droid X.

Still free of a contract too...that way if the Droid X 2 comes out next year I can get the cheaper upgrade price then :)

Ahh......no. Verizon is on to that loophole. They figured it out years ago.

Not true, I know a couple of people with Verizon smartphone without the data plans, however, I don't see the point.
