Duarte ideas integrated into Gingerbread

Good addition, but many of the things you liked about WebOS are patented, and now property of HP.

True. Many of the things he may have wanted to do didn't fit Palm or HP so are unexplored or unpatented. Trust me, the hire will be very good for Google.

The biggest complaint about Android has been UI. If he does only one thing, this will be it. First task, get Sense and Touchwiz simplified so releases don't have to make stops there. Second task, get carriers completely involved in release simplification. Third task, watch Android really explode.

You said it all right there....of course there will be certain aspects that he will not be able to bring to Android because of patents for WebOs.

But what things are there now that he wanted to impliment into WebOs but couldnt do due to hardware constraints or just Palm itself?

Plus WebOs was rushed out in its baby stages due to Palm needing the PRE out.....Android is a more "seasoned" OS....maybe there is just some simple things he can do to the UI to make gingerbread run like butter.
