Ok...I recently traded my 3gs for a Samsung galaxy s captivate and I had a question. My brother put Gingerbread on it, and all was well, except I lost data connection. I ended up doing a reset on it and now I have data, but it erased a bunch of stuff. Including the Android market app, but Gingerbread did stay.

My problem is, I cannot get the market place app back. I tried downloading several offline with no luck. Another strange thing is most of the apps stayed, but contain no info. When you click them it says, this app is not installed, and I cannot remove them.

How did your brother exactly put gingerbread on it? Was it a manual flashing or was it an official update?

It was definitely a manual flash.

After the flash it was fine. I was at home and never realized I had no data plan, since I was running off wifi the entire time. I had all the applications I wanted and what not. Then when I did the reset, the data worked, but most applications went away.
