Apparently I am not able to upgrade till 9/2012. So my question is is there any possible way to upgrade at the 299 price and not the 500+ or am i sol. Seems like my only options are to call customer care , im not sure if I can inquire at a vz store or bestbuy perhaps.. Im having hardware problems with the x and just want to get the bionic and move on

Call verizon. Ask nicely first. If no like, bitch at the representative that you have phone issues and that you will switch to AT&T if they don't let you upgrade now.
If they refuse, try 2-3 more times. My mom called and on the first time they let her upgrade from a flip phone to the OG Droid way back when it was released.
