I realize I may be a little slow to be joining the whole Fascinate Froyo Fiesta, but I was anxiously sitting on the sidelines, waiting for all of you to try it out and report back about your experience. I thought I'd share with those of you out there who have yet to make the switch from DJ05 or DL09 because you may be wondering, like I was for the past few weeks, whether the switch to Froyo would be an upgrade or downgrade. I finally took the plunge a couple of days ago and, I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised thus far. Though I may just be a newbie and it is possible that no one will ever even read this post or care what I have to say, I'm gonna share with y'all just the same about my experience:

    1) Speed: I loved my Voodoo5 on DJ05 and I was worried that the EB01 Superclean 2.4 wouldn't be as fast - especially because I had heard that the devs didn't have the source code, or whatever, for the EB01 kernels - however, that being said, Superclean 2.4 is quite snappy. I feel like there is a slight - very slight- bit more lag sometimes than the Voodoo5, but it is still pretty sweet.

    2) Battery: I installed Jt's 1/24 kernel a few weeks ago on DJ05 and started getting 36 hours or so per charge. I loved it and was concerned that EB01 wouldn't be as good. Well, I was right, but it isn't bad. I'm able to make it through the day with moderate use, but I end up charging every night. No real complaints here, but an undervolted kernel will be nice when we get it.

    3) GPS: As we all know, GPS has been an issue with the Fascinate. The DJ05 modem and the comparable DL09 modem worked, but took quite awhile to establish a lock at times. I installed the EB01 and, up until today, was unable to even get a lock. Then I googled the problem out, (as I do with so many of my problems in life!) and discovered that people had had similar issues, but solved the problem by enabling Verizon Location Services AND Google Location Services together with the standalone. I tried out the recommendations and it worked! For the first time, I am able to get a consistent, quick, GPS lock with my fascinate. It takes about 20 seconds while I am in my home, and about 5 to 10 seconds outside using the GPS Status app. Very nice.

    4) Internet and YouTube: The internet seems to be browsing faster and it's cool to have flash. YouTube on Android 2.1 seemed to load up really slow and the videos took awhile to play. Now, it seems to be working more smoothly and I don't have to wait as long to watch a video clip.

    5) Other: The Google calendar bug is fixed in this version of the software so now, when you add a new event to the calendar, you don't have to change it from My Calendar to the Google calendar. Before, if I didn't do this, it would only save the event to my phone and not to my actual Google Calendar in the cloud. This was strictly a Android 2.1 issue, as is my understanding, but I thought it be worth mentioning nonetheless.

Anyway, those are some of my thoughts, impressions and insights, for whatever they are worth. I've always been the noob asking tons of questions, so I thought I'd try to give back after being a taker for so long. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask, though I will most likely be unable to answer them! I learned everything I know from just reading through the posts to figure out how to do this stuff with no real knowledge or understanding of what kernels or roms were in the beginning, before my Android "root" days a couple months ago (my wife still thinks I'm a total nerd for being into this sort of thing). Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this forum and helped people like me who are less than tech savvy. :D

Have you tried flashing adry's batt.zip? Supposedly in cwm there's a bug with the wiping of battery stats. I just did this and I think my phone's getting longer battery life now.

    1) Speed: You're getting Froyo speed plus Voodoo speed. I don't really see a huge difference from the old Voodoo 5 kernels we had.

    2) Battery: If you're getting 36 hours of battery you're not using your phone enough haha :p Even on the lowest uv'd kernel on DJ05 I'd get about 16 hours or so of battery, which lasted me the whole day to charge at night. Now I get about 12 or so on EB01, but I'm constantly running music, texting and tethering to my laptop for school.

    3) GPS: GPS works for me too.

    4) Internet and YouTube: Really depends on what browser you're using, but Froyo technically is supposed to bring faster browser speeds, at least with the stock browser I believe.

On my undervolted 1100MHz voodoo kernel from jt I was also regularly doing 36 hrs unplugged. In fact, It wasn't rare for me to be able to do two days on a charge. That kernel combined with setCPU at 100/1100 yielded some sick battery life, even with live wallpapers.

With the same usage patterns on EB01 as is, I don't get that good of battery life, but I can still get through a day, and if I forget to plug it in at night, it won't die in the night and I can charge it the next morning in the car or on my computer. That's the most critical - bing able to make it through the day.

I think the secret sauce will be more undervolted kernels, or SetCPU optimizations. We'll see. EB01 is certainly faster and more stable than any 2.1 build I ever tried. Haven't tested the GPS on it yet, but it usually worked pretty good even with 2.1 and the stock radio for me. Only on rare occasions would it take a while to lock on.

Good post guys, I too have been waiting on the sidelines. It's good to hear back some general feedback on the new roms. :p

My battery life is garbage on both Black Hole and Super Clean. I wonder if it's the voodoo kernel...?

there change from rfs to ext4 in voodoo wouldnt not significantly impact battery life. if anything it would be *slightly* better (but still not noticable)

if you are used to undervolted kernels from 2.1 then its gonna seem like battery life is awful

compared to stock voltage .29 kernels though the .32 seems to get the same or better battery life for some...same/slightly worse for others

1-Speed: I am not noticing a huge difference from 2.1 voodoo to 2.2 voodoo, and I didn't expect one. The overall lag is less on some transitions.

2-Battery: Until today it was the suxor, I just ran adry's battery zip and have noticed an improvement already. My battery drain up until now has not been linear though, from 100-85ish was stupid fast and with moderate to heavy use 85-40 took quite a bit more time. More observations is now required though due to the batstats.zip fix.

3-GPS: Works like a champ, at home indoors I get a lock to with in 5 meters in about 10-15 seconds, and work it is about 30-45 seconds. I believe this is more of a tower issue than anything. A friend with a DX has the same issues here.

Internet and You Tube: Hit or miss in my AO, probably due to tower issues not phone though.

Overall I am impressed with EB01 and adry's SC 2.4. No random FC's no major glitches. I am having some issues with a high pertage of time with out signal. Interestingly I used the *228 option 2 and TWS increased. This morning I ran *22899 so we shall see.

[IMG]It's amazing how bad the battery is with EB01 compared to old LV kernels. Last night, i unplugged at full charge at approx 1 AM. At 6:50 this morning, I had lost 25% battery, with screen using 50% of that in 21 minutes of on time at the lowest setting. Ie, I lost 12% battery with 21 minutes of the screen being on at the lowest brightness setting. Interesting, the stupid phone said that it was unplugged for 3 hours, but it was unplugged for almost 6 hours. I also lost 12% from cell standby with 50% time without signal even though the signal in my house is pretty good. Again, interesting, was the fact that "time on" for cell signal was 5hr 50min which was the amount of time since I unplugged, so this was accurate, unlike the stats that said my phone was unplugged for 3 hours.

And I ran the BatStat.zip right before this overnight test.

I would have posted screen shots, but couldnt figure out how to do it directly from my flashdrive.

All I can say, is that I cant wait for the official release so that the developer's can work their magic and get us some LV kernels.

Don't know if it's coincidence, but there are several battery issues posts currently on xda in SC2.4 thread. Issues with phone not "sleeping".

Yesterday I was at 76% battery life at the very end of the day, around 8pm or so. Of course, this was with very moderate to light use of the phone, but I did unplug at around 7:30 in the morning. So I guess, at least for me, battery life is just as good as my old undervolted kernel I had before the changeover.

Why all the worry? Make a backup, try it and if you don't like it you go back.

So if I goto Superclean voodoo and don't like it for one reason or another, how do I get back to my EB01 deodexed?

    Thanks.

Or if I create nand backup, do I just disable voodoo (I'm assuming disable somewhere in CWR?), wipe, and restore?

Nandroid backups are specific to voodoo/non-voodoo, so you can't restore a voodoo backup to a non-voodoo rom. And yes, in CWR / voodoo/ disable lagfix.

No, I meant if I do nand backup today (while on deodexed EB01), then wipe, flash SC2.4 voodoo. If I don't like it, can I disable voodoo, wipe, and then nand restore to get back to my EB01 deodexed?

Yup just make sure voodoo does disable first. You have to reboot phone after selecting disable lagfix or it will not remove. Make sure to listen for the voice to let you know.

Anyone else missing calls and just getting a voicemail right away even though phone never rings? I'm on Superclean 2.4 voodoo with superdark. I tried reflashing and its still happening quite a bit. I am using google voice but dont think that should mess anything up.

I'm not sure if this is a phone specific issue. For all of the years I have been with vzw, there have been numerous times my wife and I have had this issue on a range of vzw phones form dumbphone-BB-Andriods.

This has happened since I put EB01 on, but extremely rare - maybe two times total. Typically my calls come through about as reliably as they always have. Sometimes I WISH they wouldn't come through .... :(

Ok, so what's the deal with all the problems with Sleep of Death a bunch seem to be having issues with over on XDA with SC voodoo? Is this random thing or wide known. I can't have my phone not ringing, etc as it's my only phone and I'm currently looking for work.

    FYI, SC2.5 is now available!!!
