I got scans of all the Calvin and Hobbes comics. If you have a laptop, why not read those comics with them? May not necessarily be a story, and it may be a bit over their heads, but I remember when I got my first Calvin and Hobbes book. It was It's a Magical World that I got in second grade from the Scholastic book order thing. My understanding evolved every time I read through it, first as a seven year old, in middle school, high school, and now. So many levels of thought in those strips.

    Yeah. Nostalgia.

When I was a kid, my mom would read me chapters of books as a opposed to short stories. I enjoyed the Redwall books - excellent adventure stories for kids.
