Ok, I skipped the ED2 update, but now I'm getting the ED4 notifications. I am seeing where people rooted from a stock ED4 update, but what should I be doing here?

    1) While rooted, (gingerbreak), just update to EE4? (I heard this might brick it)

    2) Unroot then update to ED4, then root again?

    3) Beat myself senseless daily and just keep hitting "install later"?

This is wat u do: let EE4 download, then go to xdaforums.com and look for verizon droid charge, go into droid charge development, in there u will see posts for GummyCharged 1.5, root/cwm/voodoo lagfix, and PENUT BUTTA JELLY TIME KERNEL...download all three, then wat u do is: odin the CWM WITH LAGFIX(NEW VERSION), THEN FLASH OR ODIN THE PENUT BUTTA JELLY TIME KERNEL, THEN FLASH GUMMYCHARGED 1.5...this will make u have a custom kernel, rom and rooted.

@jhrIII - You will not brick your phone coming from ED1 (Rooted). I updated just fine to EE4 from Rooted ED1. Also, The ROMs/Kernels such as PBJ and Gummy Charged 1.5 are all OPTIONAL. You DO NOT Need them to get EE4 Rooted. If you just want EE4 Rooted, then Go HERE and pick up on Step 7.

@Outsider - Please don't get offended. I know you are trying to help out (I know, you helped me out a few days ago and I appreciate that), but if you are going to respond to someone's question, please be more clear in what you post. Here are a few suggestions on how to get that done:

    1. Be more organized with your responses. Proper punctuation and use of nouns and verbs helps. (Odin is not a verb)

    2. Outline your steps and separate them by using numbers and using different lines for each step. (Step 1 in one line, Step 2 on another line, and so on and so forth) A wall of text is never a good thing.

    3. If you can, post direct links to downloads/instructions/sites. This reduces the amount of confusion that can occur bouncing from one site to the next.

    4. Answer their question to the best of your ability. The OP didn't ask for Peanut Butter Jelly Time or Gummy Charged 1.5. (Actually I don't really know what the OP was asking, haha) But on another post HERE, they asked how to "just root EE4" and nothing else. I'm glad that you love Custom ROMS/Kernels but that is something that you have chosen to do, and that is something that they might not want. And if they follow your guide, they might be unhappy with the results.

    Just my $0.02. :)

My .02 cnts is...i dont need you to teach me how to do me...i am a man and i have my ways of doing things..i appreciate the fact that you are TRYING to help me(if thats even what your doing) but please dont try to make me seem stupid because no one is perfect which means your not either so how about i help you out: dont try to teach me how to do things..instead worry about yourself and if you feel that you can help someone out with their ?'s..then do so because putting remarks like you just did about how i should do things a way that you feel is right is rude and you wont make friends that way. Just my .02 cents

Didn't see a reply from jhrIII, and I'm in the same situation.

I rooted via Gingerbreak, so I have rooted ED1. Was wondering if I do accept EE4 will I lose root, or brick my phone? Did you lose root haza12d after accepting the update?

Also, haza12d, if I do accept the update...I can't just jump to #7 on the guide right....remember jhrIII and I rooted via Gingerbreak. Don't we need to install CWR first?

Thanks! Sorry if this are dumb questions.

Like Sara I'm on ED1. I had EE4 and ODIN'd my phone with rooted ED1. It's like googling something. Lol. I've now noticed a few problems that may or may not be related to the root.

    1. I get my AOL mail using the default email program mail. emails with pictures don't load images. Instead, I get the box with the blue question mark in it.

    2. When my buddies send me picture messages, i get the button to download but the image won't download.

    3. The VZW data usage Widget keeps reporting incorrect amounts. it even dropped a GB today after watching nascar on the justin.tv app. (insert redneck joke here)

I'm thinking of installing the EE4 root, but want to know what new things/features/bug fixed are in EE4 and if it's worth the hastle to upgrade. The cool thing about rooted ED1 is that if I need to see VZW about my phone I simply OTA EE4 and am back to unrooted.

I locked several pieces of bloatwear with SystemAPK manager. Do I need to thaw them out before loading EE4? Will the phone brick if items are frozen and phone is not rooted?

If I upgrade to rooted EE4 how would I get back to unrooted if I need warranty service? would I need to ODIN stock EE4?

Also wanted to say to outsider, you had every right to get angry at haza12d for his how to post message. It did seem condesending. Yes, ODIN is a verb just like google. His only useful comment was that The ROMs/Kernels such as PBJ and Gummy Charged 1.5 are all OPTIONAL. and how to go about installing just EE4 rooted. other than that, if you don't have anything nice to say, less lip and more zip.
