Hotmail> Menu> Account Settings> General Settings> Notifications and alerts> Email notifications> Audio notification and then take your pick.

I'm sorry mate, my mistake. I don't think there is a way in the standard Mail setup to have anything other than your default notification sound. There may be an app which enables you to do this or alternatively download the Hotmail app by Microsoft + SEVEN from the Play Store and configure it as I've described previously described (make sure you delete your Hotmail account from the standard Mail setup afterwards) .

You can change it by going into settings, then personalise - select the sound tab on the bottom , then notifications and from there you will see the option to select email notifications. This is one for emails, gmail is changed in the gmail own settings
    Hope this helps

You also have the option from within the stock email app. Menu in top right corner, settings, then notification settings.
