Support Email server syncing

    I just got the S3 on VZW. One thing bugs me about the email app:

    I have Outlook on my PC, and my setup is to download messages from the server to my PC and then delete them from the server. (This is a POP account.) On all of my previous handsets (last one was Moto Droid 2 running Gingerbread), the email client would simply download messages from the server and keep them there for the N weeks that I would configure in the app.

    Now the S3's email app insists on syncing with the server and thereby deleting messages from the handset instead of keeping them around for however long I want. I can't find a way to turn this off.

    Any ideas - either for fixing this problem in the existing app or getting a new email app that will do it the way I want? (Not sure if the S3's email app is stock ICS or a Samsung app.)

    When setting up the account on your phone, select IMAP instead of POP. What you are experiencing is a function of POP and not really your phone. IMAP works the same way except it leaves the messages on the server, it only downloads a copy.

    Sorry, this won't work. You need an IMAP server in order to use IMAP, and my email server is a POP server only. Furthermore, the S3 email client (not gmail, the "other" email client) only handles POP -- at least i didn't see any IMAP options when setting my account up.

    In Outlook 2010 go to File tab, then Account Settings, select your email account and Change, click More Settings, then Advanced tab, look under Delivery and select "Leave a copy of messages on the server" and select "Remove from server after 10 days" or how many days you would like, 10 days is a usually a good range, also make note to what your online max space allowed for storing emails on the mail server.
    You might also want to select: Remove from server when deleted from 'Deleted Items' if you are on top of deleting your email in the inbox and then regularly purging email from your Deleted folder, however I wonder if this setting works when you archive Outlook email from the deleted folder?

    However it does bring up the question, does the Samsung Galaxy S3 truly download the email or is it simply viewing an image of it, because it quickly disappears from the Galaxy email inbox as soon as it is downloaded in Outlook. My Blackberry Torch would actually download all email and leave a copy on the server for my Outlook, and I could have the email on my BB forever or until I purged it. The Galaxy email configuration is not a bad idea because it uses less storage and purges after so many days based on your Outlook settings you setup above. Although you can save important emails in your Galaxy mailbox by selecting options.

    Hey billrosenblatt I have the same issue POP server and the server only allows like 200mb of storage so i have outlook deleting after 1 week mac version.... and when it deletes off the server it deletes off the phone... ive tried other programs (Emoze) and a few others and they do what i want them to but the native mail app is much better.... Have you found a fix? i hope so please help anyone???????

    My solution is easy. Dump Outlook, and use Gmail with the native email. You can set up as many accounts as you want. How about one for business, and one or more for personal. Or you can mix and match. I've used Gmail for years with no problems. IMHO, Outlook blows.:p

    Is this the only solution?? I'm in the return window with my S3 and if i can't get a solution for this issue, I may actually return the S3 and go back to the iphone

    I'm having the same issue and this is the reason I've joined this forum; to search the out.

    There HAS to be a way to save emails from a POP account on the device.
