If you set up the email account directly on your phone and tell it to never remove mail from your server, you can have it poll every half our or so for new mail, at which point it will give yuo a notification, you can read it and reply while saving the message to be retrieved later by your desktop client.

If you want immediate notification, have your email account copy incoming emails to your gmail account and it will push notifications to your phone.

Okay, I got it. If the other phone has an email gateway have your mail server copy the email to that account.

For example, AT&T is my provider so if I have all my email copied to 8005551234@txt.att.net (where 8005551234 is my mobile number) I will get an SMS with the title and first 150 characters of the message.
