Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> Mail -> Clear Data

You'll lose all mail on your handset (and possibly settings), but it should delete the offending mail.

See the same thing. It keeps showing as unread/new. Can't read it either. When I try to read the email the screen flashes and show the same message.

    And FYI...
does not work...at least for me. "Clear Data" is not highlighted however "Clear Cache" was. Which does not clear the email either.

I had to delete the account on my phone and add it again to clear the "new/unread" mail message. I don't save emails on my phone so not sure how the "Clear Data" might have affected storage.

So did anyone figure out how to delete/clear mail data?

Like the above poster, my option for Clear Data was greyed out. I went and deleted all my mail accounts....yet the Mail application is STILL saying it is 172MB (same size before I deleted accounts), and the option to clear data is still greyed out.

    Ideas?
