    Hey Good Folks,

My service provider is upgrading their network. The upgrade requires a new SIM card that I can't get to work. Texting is working, but I can't make or receive calls. Tech support has been disappointing.

Trouble shooting requires that I enable VoLTE, but I've been all through my phone's menu and haven't been able to figure out how to do this. Can anyone help me with this or confirm for me that it's not an option with this device?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Thanks PK, but that does not match my menu. The closest I have is Settings > More > Cellular networks

    Well, that's odd...
I had assumed that my e6 would be similar.

Anyway, when you select cellular networks what do you see?

Is it a possibility that the device is not capable, as it is rather old?

I've got a Data roaming option (on, off), Preferred network type, Access Point Names and Network operators

    Preferred network type.

That's part of my question. At this point is seems a distinct possibility, though my provider assured me it was compatible with the switch.

What does it give as options?

    LTE, 3G and 2G

Then those are your only options on the device.

Anyway, I have another device that is capable, and so I made a short screen recording showing where to find it if it is there.

    Try this:
Dial *#*#4636#*#* on the dialer app.
    Tap on Phone Information
    Enable VoLTE Provisioning

Then see if you can enable VoLTE here:
Settings > More > Cellular networks > VoLTE

    It's already VoLTE provisioned.

So it was enabled as seen here:

Have you restarted the phone again since installing the new SIM? It could have downloaded a network update that first requires a restart. Then check Settings > More > Cellular networks > VoLTE again.

    What carrier are you using?

There are three Moto G4 phones: G4, G4 Play, G4 Plus.
And there are at least 6 different models of the G4 Play.
Are you sure they confirmed your specific model of the G4 Play supports VoLTE on their network?

    Exactly.

I've done that several times. I've removed and replaced the SIM card several times, making sure it's clean as well as the port. I've reset the Network sttings.

    Tello

I believe I have the 1607 version, though I can't find that documented anywhere. They definitely confirmed the compatibility, since it was part of the process of having the SIM card sent to me.

It may be they're just mistaken. It may be their coverage with their upgrade is flawed. I've managed to check my voicemail twice and make one other call since the switch. It's not absolutely broken, I think.

OK so you are going from Sprint to T-Mobile. Is your area known for good/bad T-Mobile coverage?

Should be in Settings - About Phone - Hardware Info - SKU
The 1607 is missing LTE bands 66 and 71 that T-Mobile uses, but has the rest.

Check your phone with T-Mobile, it will alert you if VoLTE or other LTE network features aren't supported:
    https://www.t-mobile.com/resources/bring-your-own-phone

This says the 1607 should have VoLTE on T-Mobile:

Switching SIM cards 'should' automatically include changing a phone's APN settings to the new cellular network. Reading through all your postings that indicate all the things you've tried, try manually creating a new APN entry and see if that makes any difference. Even when you did that Network reset, that reverts all network settings (WiFi, Bluetooth, and cellular) to their defaults but the issue might involve a matter where that same APN entry from the new SIM card continues to be reused. Try manually creating a new APN using the settings from T-Mobile's web site:
    https://www.t-mobile.com/support/devices/not-sold-by-t-mobile/byod-t-mobile-data-and-apn-settings
It's better to create a new APN entry instead of editing an existing one, that way you can always go back to the original if necessary. And reboot your phone each time you re-select an APN entry.

I don't keep up with this type of thing, but a quick search shows that ALL carriers are poorly rated in my area.

    Yeah, that's mine.

My device should be OK with T-Mobile alright.

This seems to make good sense, but it didn't help. After looking more closely, I think this might be a solution for texting and data problems, rather than phone calls. Not sure. I actually tried something similar yesterday with Jio VoLTE.

I'm about to try a factory reset. Gotta do something.

So I've tried every suggestion but the problem persists.

I've confirmed that Moto G4 Play XT1607 is my device.

I've confirmed that Preferred network type is set to LTE.

I've confirmed via special code *#*#4636#*#* that my device is VoLTE provisioned.

I have reset the Network settings.

I have performed a Factory Reset and there are no Apps that might be causing the problem.

The one thing I have not been able to do is confirm that either the Enhanced 4G LTE Mode or VoLTE option is set, since I cannot find them. But again, the device is VoLTE provisioned.

My provider's technical support has failed me. What now?

Only other thing I can think of is where the phone was purchased from - factory unlocked or was it from a carrier/prepaid? Some phones bought from a carrier will have features removed.

Based on what you've said the option should be in Settings > More > Cellular networks.

That's worth looking into. Typically, I'd forgotten where the phone came from but luckily kept the emails from Tello confirming my purchase from them. I can check this with them. Might be the clue THEY need.

By the way, I've also added an APN as specified by Tello. I really thought that was going to do it. But n o o o o o o . . .
