I was wondering the same thing. I have a Desire, a Desire HD and a Samsung Galaxy Tablet all orange branded so I really wish they would hurry up. There probably tacking on there crappy game demos and pointless apps as I speak. :(

I emailed orange a couple of weeks ago and they called me! Told me the update was in testing phase (bloatware!) But they also said not to use the update check on the phone, they said to keep a check on the orange website and they would link to HTC and to download the update via the pc!

I remember Orange saying the same thing concerning the 2.1 update on the HTC Hero .... it was a load of b******s then and I suspect it's the same now. When we do eventually get any Orange update for the Desire HD it will be OTA and not downloadable via a pc.

I did think it was a bit weird as the only link on the orange website takes you straight to the HTC support page.... don't understand why they take the time to call and then just lie!

Orange will be beavering away, putting silly "Orange" graphics over the default browser etc, making it look all corporate, so when you do get it, 1st thing to do will be downgrade root, and put a custom rom on.....

2.2 was about 3 months late was it not? :(

It was something like that. Orange only seemed to pull their finger out about that update when the f/b group started badgering the CEO's office.

*edit* sorry my comment above was concerning the 2.1 update, that took a long time to be released by Orange.

I had a spot of luck, my Desire HD on Orange developed a fault (the four soft key buttons stopped working) Orange sent me a replacement and it was unbranded! As soon as I checked for a software update I got 2.3..

There isn't a massive difference to be honest, a few nice tweaks and the phone is definitely faster, but I'm not sure how much of that is 2.3 and how much is not having all the Orange cr*p clogging the thing up.

You were lucky to get an unbranded handset out of Orange.

I don't know how much the Orange bloatware slows the phone down though... I know that, if you think that it is doing, there are apps you can download that freeze, but not remove, the bloatware - that is if you don't wanna go down the rooting process... that would mean that, in effect, your phone wouldn't be running any of the Orange crap in the background - not been a problem for me, as I rooted my phone!

I was an admin on that group, actually I still am as the group is still running although it has quietened down quite a bit. What people don't realise is that it wasn't just the fact that the group existed that pushed Orange into releasing the update for the Hero, it was the letters & emails that were sent to exec offices by the creator of the group, the number of members it attracted (there were well over a thousand members) and the fact that technology websites had picked up on the facebook group & ran articles about the fight against Orange.
I've 'applied' to join the group as I'm a sick of the wait as much as anyone else, but a facebook group on it's own won't make Orange release the update any quicker.

Your right Jo, I will be sending letters and e-mails to orange execs once we start hitting milestones, the first will be upon hitting 50 members, so pleade people, join up and get the word out about this group
Cheers

I'll just make a quick statement (even though I know you guys won't do it).

Sometimes these kinds of things lead to people making physical threats and not just "I'll leave your service." Like I said, I know no one here would do that, but as a reminder, the forums cannot condone or allow anything like that.

:) Hopefully you guys will get GB soon!!!

I agree Kelmar, there is no reason for anyone to make any physical threats.

I think the reason the Hero group was so successful was that instead of loads of Orange customers bombarding Orange with questions about the 2.1 update our concerns were put to Orange Executive Offices by one person, the creator of the group, on behalf of the masses. None of his correspondence was threatening but written in a polite manner, at the same time highlighting Orange customers disgust in their lack of service and asking them to view the facebook group themselves. This approach did seem to work and we were given (some) answers to our questions even if they weren't the answers we wanted to hear. I'd like to think that the group had some involvement in the update being released a few days earlier than Orange had announced but who knows.

This is the keyword mate, the unbranded handsets get the update first regardless of what network you use them on.

I am.... I think we're the last in the line (as always) for an update!!

I dont know why HTC don't insist on operator standards with their phones... simultaneous roll out....

and Bloatware should be removable without rooting!

just my twopenneth worth
