    Hi all,

    1) I have rooted my phone, partitioned my SD card and run Link2SD on all the apps that aren't considered system.

    2) I have not yet Flashed a non-stock ROM.

As of right now, Storage Info under Link2SD's menu says I have about 46mb's left of internal space, which is only 20-25mb's more than I had before I rooted/added link2sd.

Is this normal? Should I have more? Text messages were blocked when I was below about 18mb or something like that. Am I going to run into that problem again?

Solutions or pointing in the right direction are appreciated. I tried digging through posts to figure this out with no luck.

    thanks!

Which phone do you have? OS version? Did you link all components in Link2SD to SD card?
What type of partition is your 2nd one on SD card?

Er, duh, good question. Sorry for leaving that out of the OP.

    - LG Optimus V

    - Android Version 2.2.1 (stock from Virgin Mobile)

    - I did a batch operation in Link2SD and have all boxes marked to transfer all components possible

    - I used MiniTool on windows to make the second partition FAT32

The storage info screen states as follows:

Internal Storage: total = 179mb, used = 135mb, free = 43.67mb, 24% free (I just added 2 apps, Epicurious and The Weather Channel, and linked both of them to SD and lost 3mb's)

SD Card: Total = .91 GB, used = 472mb, free = 460mb, 49% free (all of the apps I used Apps2SD for are here)

    SD CArd 2nd Part: Total = .92 GB, used 83mb, free = 856mb, 91% free

That doesn't seem quite right. Can you check if all the apps are first moved to internal storage and only then are linked to SD card via Link2SD? If you see a message "the app is already on SD card", then open its properties, move it back to internal storage and then link it.

So, would I be guessing right that Apps2SD and Link2SD are mutually exclusive? I have to switch each app one by one, so I will do that and reply back with the results. Thank you.

Ok, I've switched each app I can from "app on SD Card" to "Linked -> SD Card".

    Now I have:

    Internal Storage: total = 179mb, used = 82.11mb, free = 96.77mb, 54% free

    SD Card: Shared

    SD CArd 2nd Part: Total = .92 GB, used 1433mb, free = 796mb, 84% free

That seems more like it, though, I just want to double check. I haven't changed ROMs. After reading up on everything I can, I'm under the impression that switching ROMs will free up even more space and make more apps available for SD. (or at the least, let me switch out the apps i don't want/need)

Do my totals make more sense now based on what I have?

Thanks for the help! And sorry for putting this in the wrong forum to begin with, I assumed it was a generalized Android app issue.

Some custom ROMs will leave you more space after install, others may not. Harmonia I believe gives you the most internal space once installed, it is basically the stock ROM with a ton of bloat removed, and a few small things added to make everything work smoother.

Other custom ROMs can save you space by having things built in that you might otherwise download an app for, ie overclocking so no need for setCPU, power control widget so no need for special widgets to control lots of settings, permissions disabler, theme changer, the list goes on and on. CM7 ROMs have tons of extras, some of which you cannot get on a froyo based ROM.

Best bet, buy a larger SD card and use links2sd to gain as much space as possible. Then try out various ROMs for a day or two each, and see what you like.

It has also been pointed out by benslgdroid that after you link and then run an app if you go back into Link2SD sort by lib size and then link those libraries to SD. This is something I overlooked in my tutorial and just freed up another 20 megs or so for me.

Thanks for that, Mac--found a few lib files that were large and unlinked!

If you look in my link2sd tutorial, I just posted the steps to link all libs at once. I freed up almost 30megs (I'm hovering around 50% used on my internal memory).
