No... At least not to my knowledge.
That would be killer on a battery in my opinion. If 4G drops out and 3G takes over, the phone will still be searching for a 4G signal so it can connect to that signal again.
But it is still the way it works. Regardless of battery drain. When it does happen you get a notification and see 3G switch on so you can turn off the 4g or you can press the notification to rescan for a 4g signal. Regardless I usually only turn on 4g when I am stationary.
Here's a conundrum. Its probably the geekier of us who even read these reviews, and we know better in day to day operations not to have the whole kit & kaboodle lit up. That said, how many of those 400k per day activations go to nerds, and how many use their devices for the full extent of their contracts with any level of power management customization whatsoever?
I submit, therefore, that reviews do the vast majority of consumers an injustice if there are tweaks to out of the box configuration, and its something we need not be frustrated with.
I think it should be tested as it comes out of the box and then with tweaks.
I didn't write this: I don
I recall issues with sound quality of incoming calls as sounding 'tinny' (I had no such issues), but these were pretty isolated (and mostly from users like yourself who compared it to Blackberries!). I don't think those isolated reports had anything to do with call quality as described in these reviews.
...but it's a copyright infringing duplication of the original C|Net review we already know about?
Oops, my bad.
Phone Arena Unboxing:
HTC EVO 3D Unboxing - Phone Arena
I have another gripe with the CNet review:
"However, when compared with the Nintendo 3DS, the Evo 3D has a limited depth of field. We asked Senior Editor Scott Stein, who covers gaming in addition to laptops, to take a look and he agreed that the 3DS delivers a richer experience that goes deeper into the screen, whereas the Evo 3D offers more of a popping-out effect."
What? How far the image appears to go into or out of the screen has NOTHING to do with the device. It is purely an artifact of the source material. The display only has to get the left image to your left eye and the right image to your right eye. If the same game looks different on two different devices, it's because the developers coded a different camera eye separation angle for each device, not because the devices are different. I suspect they were probably just comparing two different games/movies. Okay, rant over -- I just felt the need to whine about that one.
I noticed this too but figured most people don't care about the 3D aspect so...
But you're absolutely right. Comments like that make the reviewer look pretty clueless when you actually have the background knowledge.
Same thing when the Sprint rep tries to convince you why you need a task killer.
Speaking of task killers, I am soooo glad I started coming to this forum in anticipation for the EVO 3D as, thanks to you guys, i've learned android tk's are no good. I consider myself an advanced user so I feel kinda stupid I didnt know this but, you live and you learn. THANK YOU GUYS!
YouTube - ‪HTC EVO 3D Review‬‏ another review. This reviewer thinks the call quality is excellent but the battery life is atrocious...
I was gonna mention that unboxing at Phone Arena...Sense UI looks sick.. I actually rewound it a few times when he was swiping thru the screens...
I assume thats Sense 3.0?
Watch and listen to the whole video before posting! She said if you are on 4G all day long the phone will last you half a day. If you leave 3G on and you are not a heavy user you will get one day out of the phone. Leaving 3G off in my opinion will get you 2-3 days.
Did you even hear her say they could barley get a 4G signal? Means lots of battery consumption. I have had to spend a night in Dallas at a hotel close to the airport and 4G was phenomenal. I think Sprint floods the airport area with 4G.
The lady had full bars throughout the video. I assume this could be why she had excellent call quality. She did an excellent job reviewing the phone. She knows what she is talking about in regard to radio usage too. Other reviewers seemed clueless.
She never said atrocious!
There was no need for your rude reply nor do you have to defensive of the phone. I am not against it and will be getting it day one. i never said those were her actual words but when a reviewer says you gotta carry spare batteries like for the evo, one could conclude that battery life is atrocious(evo's was terrible). It does not matter to me though as 4g and 3g will both be off for me as i have wifi everywhere i go and will ONLY need it when im chilling somewhere like on the weekends..
Actually my good man, she DID say it battery life was atrocious. I'm getting either way cause I'm a heavy user and im used to like half a day battery life, but this is the only review I've read that said anything bad about battery life
She did say it was atrocious, 2-3 days on wifi? how is that realistic? perhaps in your never leaving the house dungeon world it is, honestly stop defending the phone as if your life depends on it. Users here have the right to reflect on the facts.
She did not say that. She said WiMax and 3D is a battery drainer and you may need a spare battery for that.
Didn't the mods already warn you about coming into this forum?
Just checking since I've never owned a high end smartphone before. Things like 3G/4G/Wifi/Bluetooth/etc should all be tabbed off unless you are actually using the phone? So when you have it just in your pocket use the widget to tab off all those features, and then when you pull it out to use it tab them all back on? If so what about 3G/4G when you get a call?
Wow one lie after another, you are full baked!
Let's play nice y'all. Forums are here for discussions and not war. I have been guilty of an exclamation or two in the past so I know how worked up some of us can get but at the end of the day it isn't worth the rise in blood pressure. Now if you will excuse me I am going to have a beer. Cheers.
She did say atrocious toward the end of her review then she said 4G half a day and 3G a full day as long as you aren't a heavy user with certain things. She likes to leave her 3G and 4G radios on when all they do is suck up juice when left on.
