Well i know people have being saying, oh 4g sucks,Wifi on the Evo sucks, well today , My Coworker( My Boss) nd myself, test our phones.
His IPhone 3gs, Mines, Htc Evo 4g all this test were done in Center City. Philadelphia, PA .this is in Mbps, download speed.

    Test Number One 3g speed
    At&t-Sprint
    0.79-0.88

    Test Number two 4g speed
    At&t --Sprint
    -------2.95

Test Number 3 Wifi Speed(same distance)
    Iphone 3gs---Htc Evo 4g
    7.8--------------11.22

I dont see why people says wifi sucks, when we was far the iphone 3gs lost wifi signal, and the Evo 4g steal had it. :D

I don't think they are talking about speed but the signal strength

+1 I was sitting in a well know park here in KC (Loose Park) and decided to see if I had a 4G signal. And low and behold, I did! I did a quick speed test (I was getting 2 bars) and pulled 3.3/1...all while on a call. I then updated a few apps and surfed the web to see how it would respond...which turned out to be a very pleasing experience. This device amazes me everyday!

Unless someone is out of range and not able to use, signal strength alone is meaningless. All that matters is how fast can you DL.

Personalty, I think most Evos are fine. There is just a problem with the notification icon giving bad info. I think most folks wifi is far better than they think.

I agree...even though my wifi signal on my EVO show only one bar, I pull 5 to nearly 6/1.

Signal doesn't affect my speed that much but I guess people want to see all of the WiFi bars lol

I swear the iPhone exaggerates the signal strength to make it look better.

i think the signal problem is more of a not so accurate indicator
my EVO with one bar on the wifi does 9-13Mbps

I can't get more than 5Mb down with my EVO through wifi, even on my 15Mb cable internet. Is there something in the settings that is capping me?

I can stand one room away from my wireless router and get only one bar wifi, but the download speeds are the same standing right next to the router as 3 rooms away in my bedroom.

Almost every wifi video has the EVO beating or matching anything out there. The wifi on this phone is good. Even better after the update.

It could be the routers people are using. Mine for example will give terrible bandwidth to certain wifi chipsets. I only figured out what it was by moving the wifi card to a different system.

I do not care about the bars at all, I do care about connecting to the router. If I walk 30 feet from the router, the phone drops the connection.

For those that "do not understand", you know what speed you get with no connection?

Every wifi device I have ever had, could connect anywhere in my apartment at some level, mostly at 3 bars. But with the htc evo. 10 feet I get 3 bars. At 20 feet I get 2 bars, at 30 feet I get dropped connection. But at 30 feet with any other device I get at least 2 bars.

It is not about how many bars you have, it is the distance you can go before the phone stops getting the router signal, and drops the connection.

So go ahead and post what ever speeds you want to, but also post when you walk away and the connection gets dropped.

There's an interesting app called Wifi Analyzer that shows signal strength and also channel usage. Rather interesting.

Exactly that. I don't recall people saying that the speed sucked, only the range.
