basically i got a free evo 4g. my mgr thought she lost her phone went to sprint got new one under her ins plan few days later found it under her car seat. anyways she gave it to me to play around with. I have tmobile (blackberry) so i just use this primarily as mini tablet to just surf web, play games, get my andriod on, etc.

my question is is there way to remove the radio completely? and just use wifi? i figured it would save on battery. i have it rooted w/ cyan newest stable mod.

you can just turn the radio off...and turn off mobile data...? I have a free app called easy settings and it has a turn radio off button, im not sure if its referring to data or not though. Turn off data in wireless networks/mobile networks of course.

You don't need any special apps. Put the phone in airplane mode. That turns off ALL radios. Then, turn on wifi. Done.

It does turn off wifi if wifi was already on. It shuts off all radios. But then if you turn on wifi, it allows wifi to turn on while staying in airplane mode. All other radios stay off, in particular 2G, since that's the radio toggle that we weren't graced with out of the box.

If you don't need to send/receive calls, doing this saves a TON of battery life, especially if you're in an area with poor 2G/voice reception.

Ah thats the key, i never tried to turn it back on after airplane killed it because honestly i only use airplane for bedtime.

I have a 2g/3g toggle but i dl'ed that for an entirely different issue, just noted it could be used. It was a dollar....
