    Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the forums, and very interested in the Evo.

I was wondering about the HDMI connector type on the Evo. I did some quick searches in google and the forums here and didn't see anything definitive.

ImGreen brought up the question in the official Evo thread, but I'm still working on reading through that. At the point I'm at, I didn't see a clear answer.

Anyway, I came across this information, and I'm posting in hopes that it's helpful to others (perhaps in search results) and not rehash.

Here's a comparison to HDMI Type-D to Micro USB.

Comparing sizes, the HDMI Type-D connector is slightly smaller than the Micro-USB. So I'm pretty sure based on these photos, the Evo HDMI connector will be Type-D "Micro", not the Type-C "Mini-HDMI" connector.

The bad news: Quick searches for Type D connectors in Monoprice or google shopping aren't resulting in much.

    More HDMI Type-D comparisons.

    HDMI Type A, C, D comparison.

    More information on HDMI.

Yep, it's a Type D Micro HDMI. When the pics first came out, I just assumed it was a standard Mini-HDMI, and almost bought the cable. But after looking closely, I realized it was just about the same size as the Micro-USB.

I'm also hoping monoprice or somewhere similar will release a cable soon before or soon after launch. While that dock we have seen looks nice, and will charge the phone at the same time, I'm guessing it will be expensive, probably 40-60 dollar range. I'd rather just buy a 4 dollar cable and use the included charger.

i think it would behoove Sprint to ship the phone with the cable. I think as far as the 'surprises' they hinted at during CTIA, something like that is far more likely than something like a different screen.

Here's why I think its a good move: Blu-ray Spending, Digital Up for 2010 Q1

So thats 50 million households of an estimated 115 million total (43%) in America with an HDTV. When you factor in that people buying the EVO are likely more gadget/tech oriented, that will undoubtedly tip the amount of people who are getting EVO that have HDTVs markedly more than 43%. So lets just say 60% for fun and games. It just would be a good move to ship out the HDMI adapter if the majority of the consumers are going to be able to take advantage of it right from the get-go. Hope that makes sense.

i just dont see sprint or any company for that matter being that nice. business sense dictates that if u can get away with charging for it then they will. i expect a sprint branded cable with an over inflated price. i doubt the exclusion of the cable would be a deal breaker for anyone and sprint should know that. i would also much rather them leave out the cable to keep the price down.

if there is a sprint branded cable i hope theres a monoprice alternative as well. who knows though, maybe it will be included afterall. i just want full pricing and availibility details asap.

Keep in mind that EVO buyers are going to be more savvy than the public at large and will snap up after-market adapters through non-sprint retailers. They stand to make little off offering a sprint-branded cable. This isn't a car charger that a dummy is going to buy from one of their brick-and-mortars, its a cable thats going to let people that have already thrown down hundreds of dollars before EVO on their TVs. If they want to bank on skimming the top off of fools who buy Monster cables they do so at their own peril. They should go ahead and include it because it will build value on the (conservatively estimated) 60% of EVO buyers that will already have an HDTV. The at-cost value of the adapter can't be more than a few bucks and if the ongoing pattern of thought on this board is correct (that Sprint is bleeding subscribers and needs to get as many as they can back on board now) then it's a simple choice.

Is the cable even out yet? Some sites say it should come out "summer 2009" but it's almost summer 2010...

they might only make a little from a sprint branded cable but it doesn't really hurt them much to do it either. i guarantee you someone walking into a store will buy it otherwise bestbuy wouldn't even bother carrying hdmi cables but i'm sure they go through lots of those a day even though there are much cheaper alternative places to get them.

also those of us who wind up buying the evo had decided so the second we heard about it and the lack of the hdmi cable would not change our minds.

again i hope i'm wrong and they do decide to include the cable. we got headphones when the 6700 came out and i wasn't expecting that so maybe we'll get lucky again.

they may not give a full cable but they may just have an adaptor to go from the mini to the standard
