For most of us, this is great news. The Evo will debut on Sprint for $199.00 on June 4th.

    Let the celebration begin.

No, wasn't joking. I did a quick google search and didn't see it. Sorry for the cynicism, this board has been overflowing with rumors of all sorts lately.

Here's the Twitter page it's linking to http://twitter.com/sprint

No worries, my bad. I am one of those people who only posts screen shots and confirmed things.

I am not a rumor kind of guy. Tends to hurt the reputation.

  6. Extra $10 a month for 4G use and another $29.99 a month to use the tethering hotspot thing.

Here you go from the Sprint email.

    Phone Offer: While supplies last. $449.99 - $150.00 (two-year activation) - $100.00 (mail-in rebate) = $199.99 (final price)

So is it $199.99 out the door for existing customers, or $299.99 before rebate for existing users?

looks like it will be $299.99 out the door. Then you will get a $100.00 back from the mail in rebate. One unanswered question is can you get the rebate if you buy the phone outright.

Sprint takes so damn long with rebates. By the time you receive it they'll be a 5g network. Hey but st least you'll get it before Android 2.1

So existing users can get it for 199 at best buy? Is that online only or in store?

That's crazy, I thought Dan Hess had already said that there would be no extra cost for 4g???

Color me unimpressed with the Evo now. Not for the extra monthly costs but a couple other things caught my attention.

Comes with an 8GB sdhc, but the incredible came with 8GB built in plus you can use an sdhc.

    Only 65k colors? Really?

the mobile hotspot monthly fee pretty much endures that they are going to start monitoring data usage and start cracking down on rooted phones using wifi tether for free.

This is exactly why I wish they had released the Nexus one still. Something about the Evo now just feels wrong for me.

If you are eligible for upgrade pricing then yes. If not then it is $449.99

Sorry for my ignorance but what is the tethering hotspot that costs $29.99 more? What's it do and is it necessary?

It turns the phone into a mobile hotspot. So you can connect your laptop and other wifi devices to the internet to use your data plan.

This is something we can do for free when rooted right now.

so if I don't have a wifi connection but a strong 4g signal, will other people with wifi be able to connect to me in order to get internet access? Did that make sense?

I am afraid that this will be coming to a end when the Evo gets released.I think Sprint has just been looking the other way when it comes to tethering. Now with the release of the Evo and a set price for tethering I look for them to start monitoring this very closely.

That was one of the points I made in post 17. It sucks.

Linx, yes Mobile hotspot, or wifi tether like we use now, basically turns your phone into a wireless router to access the internet.
