So I was on the train today going to class, listening to music on my wonderful Sprint Hero...when the music decided to magically switch from the headphones to the speaker all on its own. Something I've thought about for a while now. And yes, pretty awkward situation to be in, if not embarrassing. Panicking and the volume rocker failing to adjust the speaker, I ripped off my case and pulled the battery.

In disbelief, all anxious and everything...I was glad it stopped. I put the battery back in, turned on...and it booted up fine.

UNTIL IT GOT TO THE HOMESCREEN...where surprise number two arose. The music continued to play. Furious, I once again removed the battery cover and pulled the battery.

I'm so pissed about this. I've been upset about the Hero's sluggishness/software bugs and have even reported one to Google about headphone jack issues before. Tried searching everywhere for this specific issue. Found nothing exactly like this. Any ideas?

Really close to *sigh* going back to my Tour, or a Pre.

There's an app, somewhere on the market, that manually toggles between headphones and speaker, overriding the flakey autodetect sensor. It's a bodge, but it works.

Cant remember what the app was called off the top of my head. Try searching for 'headphone toggle' or something similar.

Wow, that is just terrible. I can't believe it would play your music outloud. Are you some tough guy listening to Mariah Carey or Brittney Spears? What is so embarrasing about it? All you probably had to do was re-seat your headphone plug into the jack. The fact that you scrambled to remove your case, remove the back plate, and then the battery is amazing. Just try moving the headphone plug around next time, should fix your problem.

Or try the software they suggest. Haven't had an issue with the headphone screwing up.

Something similar happens on my Nexus1.

I use apple's headphones with the in-line controls (just my personal preference) and play the music on the nexus, everything's good.

I'm used to pulling out the headphones from the phone to stop the music and if I pull out them slowly, the nexus will skip to the next song and continue playback through the speakers.

If I pull the headphone out quickly, it will perform as desired. Stop playing and pause the music player.

I guess its an Android bug that interprets contact with the next prong level on the headphones as "next" or "skip" instead.

    you could also trying....

    select music player... press stop/pause.
If you are using the HTC music player .. that can be done on the lockscreen!!

    relax.. enjoy your music... :)

Lol, yeah seriously bro.. who gives a damn? You paid your money to be on that train just like everyone else. I wouldn't give a damn if ppl hear my music b/c the odds are wherever I'm going on the NYC MTA someone else is gonna be blasting their music at max volume anyways lol.

Luckily, I don't listen to any music on my phone b/c I have a iPod touch (which I got as a gift b/c I would never buy anything from Apple).

i know this is not an answer to your problem, or what you may want to hear...but i would suggest using a portable music player. i use a zune, and it is great! companies incorporate mp3 players onto there phones because of the demand in the market, but honestly phones are best at being phones, and music players are best at being music players. if you really want to have a seamless integration of music and phone - get the iPhone. otherwise listen the dudes here and try some of these fixes.

I don't remember if it ever got fixed but there was a problem with turning on your phone with headphones in. I don't remember what would happen but that could be it. Turn the phone back on, if the music continues to play try pause. If that doesn't work lower the volume so it doesn't annoy you. If the music refuses to stop playing, this would be the time to use a task killer. Then if that did not work, reset back to factory.

awesome picture! i actually made a comparison of apple to taco bell...they both use the same ingredients - over and over - and continue to make the same stuff again 'different' ways. haha, i wanted to post that on my facebook, but feared iPhone users would get mad :)

I started a facebook war last week. I was telling a friend who has verizon to get a droid, and one of her other friends said iphone rules all, and really set me off... needless to say it got ugly rather quickly lol!

    Hey, hey, hey...Be nice:p

I have been looking around for some nicer earbuds for my Nexus1. (Ones with inline controls)

The one packaged with the Nexus are just too darn big for the insides of my ear.

If anyone has suggestions, I'll defiantly look at them.

I just use my huge Bose headphones with my mp3 player lol. I don't use my phone as a music source.

Yes, I actually did re-seat the headphones. Common sense. No, I don't consider myself a tough guy. That particular bit of feedback isn't really necessary or helpful.

Also, I couldn't find the toggle widget/app. I was searching for it before I even posted here.

I actually have had that problem. Hasn't been fixed. Only fixes when you reboot again without them plugged in.

I would definitely get a standalone mp3 player right now, if I had the cash. I'd rather that, of course. My battery life is already not great and I would love to buy an iPod right now.

Very obvious suggestions, haha. Yes, of course I tried that. Nothing was responding and I was spazzing out too, just trying to make it be quiet. The lockscreen buttons are known to freeze/stop working too. It's happened a million times to me.

You do know you could have just hit pause, rather than a battery pull right?
