Hiya, does anyone know if you can chat in Facebook?

From the main menu of the official facebook app, chat should be the bottom right of the 9 options.

    Here's what you should see:

    Hi Annie Mae,

Firstly, make sure your Facebook for Android APP is up to the latest version (1.5.2). Now, open the APP and click the blue facebook bar at the top (which will take you to the main Facebook screen). On this screen you should have 9 icons on the top half and a photo/media stream at the bottom. The bottom right icon should be labelled 'Chat'. Click this and you should be taken to the Facebook for Androids FB chat window (See Xyros post above for a screen shot of the main Facebook for Android screen).

I, however, think the FB chat feature of the Facebook for Android app is useless and I much prefer to use eBuddy which, besides connecting you to Facebook chat, also connects you to MSN, Yahoo, AIM, ICQ, GTalk, MySpace & Hyves.

Hope this has been of some help.

    Cheers,
    Sombre.

It probably wasn't linked to the market, since it comes preinstalled.

Search for it on the market and it will have an update next to it.
I find the chat is really good and fast, but it keeps all your previous chats on... haven't figured how to remove the old conversations lol.

Thanks for all your help guys. It would appear I haven't got the updated version as I also have friend requests in the bottom right hand corner of that screen!
Gonna have a look at sortin it out, and that ebuddy thing sounds good though too.
    Cheers :)

I haven't yet figured how to log out of chat. My friends tell me I'm constantly on Facebook and they try chatting to me but I never respond. Selecting the go offline option in the app does absolutely sod all.

How do you make it so you are actually offline when the app is closed?!?

The chat will show your old conversation due to facebook messaging service which links your message and chat in one place. Therefore it will save all your conversation in the facebook cloud.

The offline function works, because I use Trillian as my facebook chat client and I never get any chats via the facebook app, so I know it works. When my facebook chat app is on, I get two notifications.. LOL
