I have flashed a newer firmware, and also rooted a kernel to match the firmware I flashed. I have also installed clockwork mod recovery.

If I were to get the phone back to its stock state, I would loose root I know but would I also loose the clockwork mod recovery?

Also would I need to clear the cache, data and Dalvik before flashing the stock firmware?

Yes it would return to android recovery. No you dont need to wipe anything unless you want to get rid of all user data then just do a factory reset in settings>privacy>factory reset.

After the "downgrade" of firmware, I was faced with a heap of force closes. Having backed up everything (including SMS messages), I decided to factory reset and reinstall. Everything has been perfect since.
