Would a factory reset loose root?

I'm having problems with my 3g staying active. People recommended that a factory reset fixed their problems

I can tell you from personal experience you're good. I did it just yesterday. But you may have to download apps like wifi tether for root users from the market again *if you don't have some kind of backup manager*

I would also recommend creating nandroid backup once you get everything back to your liking on the factory reset *if you haven't already* so if you ever run across other problems or flash other roms, you're back on your feet with a quick restore.
