Recently bought 8 GB SDHC. The problem is it doesn't recognize some particular mp3 files and doesn't copy .apk files properly. Besides the phone forces me to reformat it without a reason. Never had such issues with the original card.

Bought it from eBay which after a little internet research turned out not to be a good idea. It is non-branded card, so I suppose it's better to not save money on sd card and buy original Kingston or Sandisk? Maybe some other brand? And are there any visual differences between the original and the fake?

    Welcome to the forums! :)

Does this help at all: Fake Memory Cards - OCAU Wiki

There's also an app called H2testw which will test the card by filling it with data and letting you know the full capacity.

I got scammed myself by a "32GB microSDHC" card for under $20 :). Guess I should have known better.

Anyway, the program El Presidente recommended above confirmed what other postings said, that the card showed that it had 30+ GB available, but only had capacity of a little over 5GB.

I went back and forth with the seller for a while and finally filed a claim with EBay and they got the seller to refund me.

    Good luck!

I thought my problem was an inappropriate file transfer, not a fake capacity.
But after running the test you both suggested, turned out my card has only 2 GB capacity instead of 8 GB.

    1.8 GByte OK (3909688 sectors)
5.7 GByte DATA LOST (12027848 sectors)

jerry42570, how did you force the seller to return the money? I am able to send the item back within a week after the receipt but now it's been almost 2 weeks. Am I still able to do anything about this?

:( Sorry you've been ripped off.

If the seller won't give you the money back, I'd contact eBay.

It may have been nearly 2 weeks, but you've been sold fake goods so you'll get your money back one way or the other.

Memory on Ebay is the most frequent counterfeit, but they're far from the only fakes. Everything from pocket knives to brake pads can be phony. If the memory is branded, I'm p!ssed off enough to think about calling the FBI, or whatever federal agency is tasked with reining in the sale of these fakes. It may seem like a small irritation but it's grown into a major problem and it's spreading.:mad::mad: Rant!
