I think the Droid should have had more shelf life than just nine months. I have the X and that do not bode well for me. This tells me my X will not last a year. Anyway the Fascinate would have done well being released between the two new Droid phones. Fascinate this month or early sept and the Droid 2 oct/nov.

Several sources have already indicated that Google at least recommends a device with a minimum 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM for Android 3.0 Gingerbread, neither of which the Droid offers. So that meant that anybody buying the Droid would be buying it with some question about it running Gingerbread well, if at all. That might make it a bit of a 'lame duck' offering except to those wanting to employ root, custom ROMs and overclocking.

It has also been suggested for quite some time that the Droid 2 would be Verizon's first phone to come with Android 2.2 Froyo. Thus avoiding potentially delaying other phones from being offered with Froyo meant getting the Droid 2 out first.

So while whether the Fascinate should have been released before the Droid 2 or not is a good debate, I don't believe that delaying the Droid 2 release until October or November was a real practical option.

And releasing a phone that's been on the market for a while with other carriers and having android 2.1 on launch is better?

Verizon really doesnt care about samsung after what they did with the incredible screens and how they have a history of releasing phones with lots of issues and not addressing them. But i mean look at all the GPS issues they are having personally i would rather wait a little longer then have to be in verizon every other day with my phone trying to get it fixed but thats just me

Do you really thinkg that VZ is holding a grudge over the AMOLED incident?
This is the business world not a preschool playground.
Only possible reasons for Fascinate's delay could be Moto and VZ had some kind of deal and Samsung didn't. Or simply VZ thought that they will sell Droids better with all that marketing. Droid has a very positive image and Samsung smartphones dont. Also, VZ has never pushed a single Samsung phone to date.

Well let's hope that the Fascinate doesn't release with the same GPS issues. We then would have the delay, with none of the benefits.

+1. Agree on all fronts. VZW thinks it's in their best business interests to do it this way, period.

yeah it is about business and verizon lost lots of money with not having any incredibles so yes i say thats why they are doing it they know that motorola has a good history with supporting their phones and having enough of them to go around.

Is the Fascinate not going to have Froyo on it?

I went the Verizon store a couple time and checked on the X and the Incredible. The X is nice, but the finish looks kind of cheap. It does not have the high end look. On the other hand, the Fascinate (based on the youtube videos) has very nice finish.

What kind of GPS problem it has? Is it on the other variation of Galaxy S?

    Please explain. Thanks!

I also have to wonder if the potential of a phone being released in a short time period on all four major US wireless providers, and many others around the world, is also a factor. If the Fascinate were to have Droid X or Incredible type initial sales, can Samsung support that and would their supporting Verizon be a priority? Might one reason for Verizon not releasing the Fascinate be their waiting until the Vibrant, Captivate and Epic initial demand dies down so that they can avoid more supply problems?

Another thought, the Droid 2 was to be, and turned out to be, the first Verizon smartphone to come with Android 2.2. Would it make sense that all subsequent Verizon 'high end' smartphones would then be released with Froyo or eventually Gingerbread? It might be difficult to tout your new model as being 'state of the art' if it is running an older version of the OS than existing models. I could see Verizon waiting until they can release the Fascinate with Android 2.2 and supposedly a Froyo update for the Galaxy S phones is coming sometime next month. That timing might work out well for several aspects; releasing it with Android 2.2, releasing it after the initial 'rush' on the other Galaxy phones have died down (and maybe some issues been fixed) and releasing it a reasonable time after the last major device release.

Ahhh. It's a nice to dream, I hope you are right - but I suspect it will have 2.1 . At this point I would settle for it being released without the GPS issue on the others ...

Agree i just want a phone to be released with minimal bugs or atleast small ones. And seeing how the galazy s phones have already been rooted, if you are that antsy for 2.2 if it does launch with 2.1 you could always install it that way
