Root Fastboot not working

Hello,

I have bought a used HTC Legend as my previous phone died, I am trying to unlock the rom but so far have been unsuccessful. I have searched on google but so far have been unable to find a solution.

I followed the guide on the HTCdev website and managed to get to step 8 but this is where the problem occurs. I enter 'fastboot oem get_identifier_token' in command prompt with the Legend connected and fastboot mode selected from the HBOOT menu.

Once I enter 'fastboot oem get_identifier_token' and press enter the following appears:

<bootloader> [ERR] Command error !!!
OKAY [ 0.008s]
finished total time: 0.008s

My HBOOT screen displays the following version details:
LEGEND PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.01.0000
MICROP-0816
TOUCH PANEL-SYN07_0105
RADIO-7.13.35.05
Nov 8 2010, 15:24:15

Anybody have any ideas to what is going on and how I can unlock the rom?
