Let me start by saying I've always had android phones. I traded my android in a while ago for an iphone and just came back to android. Between now and then I dropped ATT and went to straight talk (which we love) so I kind of got stuck with my iPhone, since I had no free phones with contract renewal. I just got a BLU energy, overall its pretty good for a budget phone but it only has 1G of RAM and I'm wondering if there are any launchers that are known to boost phone speed a bit. Everything has changed since I parted with android a few years back lol!

Also any keyboard recommendations would be appreciated, the stock KB is slow.

    Nova Launcher and SwiftKey keyboard.
Launcher will only be fast while you're using the homescreen though :thumbsupdroid:

If your BLU Energy ends up being zapped of its namesake, the ASUS ZENFONE 2 is gonna be officially announced for the U.S. on 5/18/15:

Looks like quite the powerhouse, available in different configurations of power & storage/memory/RAM & supposed to be very affordable, speculated US pricing from $199-$300-ish.

If you're interested,I'd avoid 3rd party e-tailers & buy from ASUS direct,to ensure you get a phone that's compatible for the US market.

I'll keep that in mind if this phone doesn't seem worth it.
Being that I have to pay out of pocket now, my budget for new phones isn't huge (this was an early mother's day gift lol) but I like only paying $100 a month for unlimited everything on 2 lines with S/T.

The Nova launcher set to prioritize performance vs animations made a huge difference. This thing is pretty darn snappy now. So far I'm happy with it, but the YouTube reviews kept going back to the lag as its main downfall and it was making me nervous.

That's what I missed about android though, you can usually fix things to an extent. I'm also going to get the biggest SD card that I'm allowed (I think it's 64G) and move the apps that can be moved to it.

I was never one to have the newest flagship phones anyway, only time I had one was when I got a great fluke deal on an evo, I loved that phone lol.

You can set "performance vs animations" across the whole device in Settings, Developer Options

I just turned off all animations in the system settings, what else would I change?

You could also go back into Developer Options & limit the number of background processes.
I've never done it myself, but, just as the animations are able to be put back to factory spec,so is this, should it prove to not help/etc......

I feel i should mention that the phone's internal flash memory is always going to be leaps and bounds faster than a sdcard. Moving all your apps to the sdcard will actually make them run slower...
Another thing to take into consideration is the apps you have installed themselves. If they have services that run constantly in the background (Facebook, messenger, clash of clans, etc. Basically any app that checks for updates/syncs) they will always be using ram. Install too many of them and you will experience lag because you're simply running out of ram.

I have Facebook, instagram, etc. I barely have any games that I play, none are even installed at the moment. I play scribblenauts and jelly splash occasionally. That's about it. I wonder if using the stock email app and setting it to have me manually check it vs the Gmail app would help.

I use my phone mainly for social media, Amazon shopping, reading blogs, etc.

That's good to know about the internal memory vs SD card, I guess I'll move most of them back.

There is always the Zeam Launcher. It has not been updated in a while, but it runs pretty slim and fast.
