Fits VERY well!
64 year-old bass player Armando Vega Gil, co-founder of the Mexican rock band Botellita de Jerez, facing accusations of sexually abusing a minor, took his own life on Monday. He denied the allegations, even in a farewell post on social media.
RIP, Armando. Regardless of your innocence, I’m sorry you chose to end your life. May those who loved you find peace and be spared the awful emotions that often attach to the survivors of suicide.
This is hyper-local to where I live...
RIP: Eleanor Maloney. An ORT technician for many years.
I was an ORTTech...
Since we already have a 2019 Fatality thread: https://androidforums.com/threads/fatality-2019.1293362/ which (as such threads have been) is focused on the passing of those with some manner of general renown, perhaps this thread title should be modified to reflect that it's only to reflect on the passing of folks who weren't well known outside of the typical circles?
Not that such lives are any less meaningful (and it could well be argued were more meaningful!), but relatively speaking most people aren't going to know who they were.
RIP to Ms. Maloney, stolen too soon; may her friends and loved ones find comfort in their grief. I hope the authorities quickly find, arrest try and convict the criminals that killed her.
DPB, I agree with @rootabaga. I think this thread should be renamed to indicate that it's the 'local' edition.
I think a single fatality thread is enough. Celebrity is a malleable enough claim that local celebrities can be memorialized in the broader thread.
Ian Cognito, a stand-up comic best known in the UK, suffered a heart attack and died on stage yesterday. Under the circumstances his audience didn’t realize his collapse wasn’t part of his act. His fellow comics have said some very kind and gracious things. His age was not stated and I couldn’t easily find it.
RIP, Ian, and thanks for bringing some joy and laughter into people’s lives. I’m glad you died doing something you loved.
Here’s a good article from BBC News via the ubiquitous apple: https://apple.news/AMJHhJeucQK2qc28IYn7Uxg
Actress Georgia Engel, star of stage and the small screen (I most remember her from The Mary Tyler Moore Show) has passed at 70.
RIP, Georgia, and thanks for sharing your talents and giving people lots of laughs along the way.
Pilot Jerrie Cobb, America’s first female astronaut candidate, died last month in Florida after a brief illness. She was 88.
Rather than a link, I put the obit article in a quote below so you can easily expand and read it if you like. Jerrie was one of the Mercury 13, who sadly never really went anywhere.
RIP, Jerrie. Thanks for trying, and thanks for reaching.
Ray Sawyer co singer from Dr Hook he was the pirate/cowboy died December 31st 2018. I am a big fan of 70's music
I'm so in awe of, and grateful to, women like Cobb who paved the way for the rest of us.
It's a shame she never made it into space, but that doesn't diminish the trailblazing she did that led to other women getting there.
There was a post about him in the 2018 version of this theme, with some good follow-on comments: https://androidforums.com/threads/fatality-2018-edition.1231466/page-12#post-7836573
Ken Kercheval (Cliff Barnes in Dallas) - 83
Boston Celtics legend, John Havlicek, dies at 79.
Although I bleed Lakers purple and gold, I recognize what a great player Havlicek was. Condolences to all who loved him.
I'm the Lekars number one fan.
This is a little different--and weird...and ghoulish: Famed director John Singleton, 51, will die today.
The local TV stations are reporting that it's confirmed he will be taken off life support later today. He suffered a major stroke 12 days ago.
Singleton is best known for his 1991 masterpiece, Boyz N the Hood.
Strokes are nothing to take lightly, first Luke Perry now Mr Singleton booth of them younger than 55
He passed a short while ago. https://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture...-support-weeks-after-suffering-stroke-n999466
RIP, John. Thanks for sharing your talent ... and in ways that helped many others.
I know. It's scary...as someone *cough* over 55...to see such young people (by today's standards) dying like this is very troubling and sad.
My deepest condolences to the Singleton family. God forbid I am in ever that situation where I have to make that decision.
"......we all gotta go sometime"
it is one of my favorite movies all time.....RIP Mr. Singleton.
I just heard that actress Nadja Regin passed away on April 6, 2019. She was probably best known in the US for being in the Bond films “You Only Live Twice” and “From Russia With Love.”
RIP, Nadja. Kudos on being in some fun and popular films.
@rootabaga Was she the boot lady?
Peter Mathew, probably best known for his portrayal of Chewbacca in the “Star Wars” films, has passed at 74.
RIP, Peter. Thanks for being such a huge part (figuratively and literally) of so many beloved movies.
Variety article here.
Think I might watch Star Wars Holiday Special again.
