I tried the solution in this thread but it did not work for me.
    http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/65618-file-access-via-pc.html

I have a Samsung Precedent (Walmart phone) that's on the Sprint network.
Gone into Settings > Wireless & Networks > USB connection > Mass storage OR Ask on connection (I have tried both)

What will get me file access to this Android again? please help.

How about downloading myphoneexplorer which is a software that links your phone and pc. Download app to phone and then browse phone via the desktop version?

    Over there <points>
I also recommend MyPhoneExplorer. Much nicer than using a cable, anyhow, as you don't have to unmount the SD card.

Have a look on 'AirDroid', free in Market.
But it has more than file access from PC :)

To fix it with the cable, try downloading the latest driver off the internet for your phone on your computer

I use an App called Splashtop Remote. It costs $4.99 in the Market, but is well worth it IMO. Give me complete access to my PC from anywhere.

I use SwiFTP, but eStrong File Manager also has this built in. Samsung also has Kies Air which also allows you to access the phone via wifi. I never use the USB cable if I don't have to.
