The Bionic has been the best phone I ever had. I really have enjoyed the device. But, it's gotten progressively slower with each system software update.

I dropped the darn thing pretty hard onto a concrete floor a few weeks ago and smashed the glass (digitizer). I bought two replacements, since they were cheap enough. It worked great for about a week after I installed a new digitizer. But then it started acting goofy. I tried the other digitizer and there was no change.

I need the phone for work so I pondered my options. I ended up ordering a Galaxy Note 3, which should be here in a few days.

So, I guess I should go check out the Note forum. Thanks for all the great info and help I've gotten here since I've owned this great phone.

I love my Note 3. You should also check out good shock-protecting cases for your new phone. I like my i-Blason (under $20) but there are quite a few out there.

I already ordered an Otterbox Defender for the Note. It should get here about the same time as the phone, if not before.

Good luck with it. I was torn between a Droid Maxx and the Note 3 and ended up with the Maxx. I already miss the Bionic because it fit into my gym armband so well, and also the car dock was better than what's available for Maxx in terms of allowing both music in/out and charging. But the new phone definitely works better with the operating system than Bionic did after the updates.

Thanks. I looked at the Maxx but the non-removable battery was a dealbreaker for me, despite the great battery life. But, I gave it a serious look. Hope you enjoy it.

Is the gradually slowing of the Android OS an endemic thing or just something peculiar to the Bionic for some reason? My Bionic has really, really bogged down of late to the point where I'm just cussing at it half the time waiting for it to do something, ANYTHING, while I glower at it. Not to sound like a troll, but I've never had that performance degradation issue with IOS devices at all.

Would I be in for a similar relentless performance death spiral were I to replace my Bionic with another Android phone? Is this some weakness of the Android OS that the IOS does/does not suffer from? I am thinking of upgrading at some point but don't want to consign myself to be swearing at my new phone in a year's time.
  7. It seemed to me and was never proven that it got better with ICS and worse with JB.

You should clear the data cache partition where temporary files are stored. It becomes fragmented and can really slow things down.

Under JB you can run in Safe Mode (disabling all apps you added without uninstalling them) and if the problem stops it is caused by an app you added.
