I have a Galaxy S GT-I900 recently rooted and unlocked, originally with Three UK but I am now using a Vodafone UK SIM.

When I switch it on I first get a series of screens that I believe are called idle screens.

If I press the Apps button I get another series of screens listing all the Apps on the phone.

Can someone give me some help in understanding he difference between the two sets of screens?

The screens you've called Idle screens are actually called Home screens. You can use them for installing shortcuts to favourite apps, widgets etc.

The apps button opens the app drawer. All that contains is a shortcut to all of the apps you've installed on your phone.

Think of your homescreens like your desktop in Windows and your app drawer as your start menu. Does that make sense now?

That's very helpful but what is the difference between an app and a Widget?

I copied the ICE app to the home screen and when I tried to open it for editing it said this could not be done from a widget ---- I thought it was an app?

Good stuff, it probably explains it better than I could as it shows you exactly what they are
