I don't think the fingerprint works as great as it should

No under-display fingerprint scanner currently matches a dedicated one. Every review says that the "budget" S10e has a better scanner than its "higher-end" siblings.

It's a compromise: design and "cool" factor Vs performance. Samsung held off from using the first generation under display scanners, but with the commercial incentives to adopt this they decided to go when it was "good enough" rather than wait until the technology matched a dedicated sensor (if it ever will).

Well I've been struggling with my finger print login. Sometimes I fail to register 5 times in a row.. very frustrating.

Figured out what I was doing wrong. When I set mine up I used my thumb, as it's the natural choice when holding the phone. However I scanned my thumb straight on ie from the top of the phone to the bottom - dead straight. That was the issue as because when you hold the phone your thumb is presented 90' to the left(or right).

Once I re-scanned at a 90' angle the login works as expected. Although still slower than a hardware scanner.

I always train these things using different angles for that reason. Although the centred, rear-mounted scanner of my phone is usually pressed with the flat of my finger, my laptop gets all sorts of angles (as it's usually not on my lap, and I don't always use the same finger or from the same direction).

I never had this issue with my S8+, but I guess that's because the rear scanner makes you present your finger pretty much straight on most of the time.

My 8+ fingerprint NEVER failed me and response was pretty much instant. My hubby has the 8+ now and I the 10+. The 10+ fingerprint just downright sucks. It fails me more times than it actually registers. I hate it. I can do the 'connect' the dots security in seconds. What a bloody waste.

It is new tech, hopefully with firmware updates the login speed will improve. As for not registering my failed logins have decreased dramatically since training my thumb to work on the 90' angle. I also added a second finger scan for when the phone is on my desk which helps greatly.

    I would think I've gone from a 80% failure to 20% ATM.

You know what really grates me?

When the screen is off and you try to unlock with your fingerprint, however it is at the stage it requires a pin instead. The phone DOES NOT notify you of this until you wake the screen, bloody annoying!!!

  13. When I set up my fingerprint, the phone walked me through it and told me to register prints from all angles. I had a few times when it would not work, and that is aggravating. I took the prints off though, mainly because I'm seldom anywhere of worry with the phone to be concerned about someone stealing it or looking through it, and dont have kids around the house. I really have very little to hide on it. I dont keep any highly sensitive info on it and I seldom have any communications I would be concerned about anyone else seeing. I prefer a PC for most web stuff and I'm just not addicted to my phone and dont need to use it for everything like a lot of people.

When I went to turn off the security, so that when I was at home I could open the phone without security; It told me doing so would remove my fingerprints. I just said yes and never set up the fingerprints again. I'm not going through that every time I want to turn security on and working from home, I dont need it most of the time.
