Is it just me or is the fingerprint sensor on the s7 edge rubbish. It does not matter what I do, 70% of the time it will not recognise my fingerprint and I have to put a pin code in. I have deleted the stored fingerprints countless times and started again to no avail, wiped the sensor, kept my finger still, moved my finger over the sensor, tried different fingers, wiped my fingers first, etc, etc.

I have read in a couple of reviews that the fingerprint function is poor on the s7 and I was hoping it may be improved with an update.

Got my s7 a couple of weeks ago and I haven't had much joy with the new sensor either.

Try using more of the middle of your fingertips where the uniqueness of the prints are, not so much of the tip of your fingers. It gives me better success.

I haven't heard any particular complains regarding the sensor in iPhone 5S, and the sensor in S7 (flat) is much, much better (I switched several days ago).

It work almost every time for me.
From what I see, a lot of people didn't config the fingerprint properly result in bad fingerprint recognition.
For configure tip see this: https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS7/comments/4ttgvd/fingerprint_sensor_tip/
"While setting up fingerprints, I assumed that the sensor was taking snapshots of my finger at that position, so I tried rotating my finger around the home button getting as many different angles as possible. This is NOT how Samsung intended the setup to be used. The correct approach is to hold the desired finger in a single positional angle and vary the different areas that the finger touches on the sensor. Moving it up and down, left and right. Samsung automatically accounts for any difference in angles when you try to scan your fingerprint."

My wife & I both have S7 Edges, she has this problem quite a bit, with the sensor not recognising her fingerprint. It's even locked her out before after a number of tries.

On the other hand my sensor works a lot better & I only get a rejection in about one out of thirty to forty unlocks.

Don't know if it's quality of the sensor or operator technique, but my wife finds it very frustrating as it has continued even after cleaning sensor & repeated re-loading/re-setting of fingerprint data stored on the phone.

You are clearly better at giving the finger.:brbdroid:

Although not 100% accurate, I've had good success with my fingerprint reader and have been happy with it. Especially coming from the Galaxy S5 where the fingerprint reader drove me crazy to the point I went back to a pattern instead. Make sure you rotate the position of your thumb during setup to account for all angles.

My scanner seemed to not work about 20% of the time. I did this yesterday and now it doesn't' work 50% of the time!

I have tried everything. It is so useless at recognising my fingerprints I have given up and now using the pattern input instead.

Recording the same finger as all 4 saved prints works nicely. Even better for me is using my thumb horizontally - easier angle and more accurate.

This is an area I have to say was a small step down from my Nexus 6P. The FP reader on that was awesome, and most reviews confirmed that. The S7E is not quite as accurate, but works the first time 90% of the time on mine.
