4.03 would not work for me (some "unknown file" error kept popping up immediately upon install process) but 3.98 worked just fine.

    thank you!

Im curently having the same problem, i got confused since there is no CSC file. So, which ones to remove, and more importantly WHY to remove them? I know that CSC file is country based, don't know what the .img file is though and WHY would i want to remove any of those.

you only delete amss if you want to stay on your current radio stack (specifically i7500l users)
cache.img is the file that configures the device with provider based information and is not recomented if you are not using a device from that opporator

A bit early to tell don't you think, given the firmware became available less than 24 hours ago.

Ok, managed to flash drakaz recovery v4.4 anyway to enable root. BUT, I'm getting some FCs on certain apps, e.g., I'm trying to restore my settings via sprite backup, but to no avail, FC after license agreement. As a matter of fact, it's a FC loop.

    yes

Yes, but it FCed before I even managed to start restoring. Well, just a quick update for anyone experiencing FC problems, do a wipe. I managed to get it working.

On a sidenote, I didn't think it would be a problem, since I even got the settings ported from cupcake to gaosp.

I was getting the same error, after using 7-zip to extract and repack the files. I did get it working by opening the tar and deleting the cache file from within the tar. :)

BTW it's also taking ages to start up, it was hanging at the "Samsung" screen for several minutes. But eventually Odin reported "Pass" so I think it's working as intended. :)

BTW2, my windows machine is throwing up "New hardware found", but I'm trying to get by without messing with drivers again.

    Finally, finally, finally. :)

I was going to wait for an official O2 firmware but my lack of patience got the better of me.

This has, at long last made this phone usable. Thanks to the OP for the firmware and thanks to everyone else for the hints and tips along the way.

For those that are interested, I'm was using the current O2 stock firmware (IK4) and upgraded using Odin 3.95.

Improvements: It's a little early to tell but the phone is definitely more responsive, the new market looks great and the camera is definitely quicker and perhaps slightly better quality. I'm just about to test Goggles now.

I'll give it a few days and post whether there's any improvement in battery life.

I've also just worked out how to get the HTC keyboard installed and that's a vast improvement too.

ADB works just fine here (and for a lot of others) after the update, if it didn't, nobody would be able to insert Drakaz recovery.

Yes. :) I did have to reinstall the fastboot usb driver, and after that I could use ADB to reinstall Drakaz recovery tools. [Edit: do not do this-->]Right now it's restoring the nandroid backup I did just before flashing, I hope it goes well so I don't have to set everything up again.

Ok, I got all my settings -- but not the new Market, or the new Power widget that's supposed to have replaced Switcher (which is still shown but no longer functioning). I guess I'll need a little bit more voodoo to get that reinstalled.

This is not "easy", not by a long shot. A new user would have a %

Ayup, and I was half expecting as much. "About Phone" says reports Firmware Version=1.5; "*#*#1234#*#*" reports PDA=IK4 and Phone=JB2.

So Round 2 is to do a full user+system Titanium Backup, and see if I can restore that from a factory-reset v1.6 load. Stay tooned...

...okay, now I got all the new v1.6 stuff -- but not my old data and settings. Yayboo. I'll get over it.

2.x and maybe 1.6 saves your settings online (if you choose to let it). The new market will also auto-install you're apps again after a factory reset! I'm not sure if it will work from 1.5 -> 1.6 upgrade, but the next time you factory reset it should remember your apps and reinstall.

The alternative is that you didnt factory reset after updating?

It seems this update doesnt do a factory reset. That means when you update you /data partition still has all your 1.5 'user' customisations on it. These may or may not work with 1.6. Do a factory reset using key combinations. OR do a factory reset BEFORE updating to 1.6, and then again once updated.

    DON'T restore a nandroid backup from 1.5 onto 1.6. You'll end up with a 1.5 :p
