Sorry for the Noob question, but I'm about to flash my first rom and am quite hesitant, not sure if I've got all my bases covered.

If anyone could please just tell me if I'm missing anything, it would go a long way for piece of mind!

I've got a nandroid backup, used TB and SMS Backup to back up user apps and texts respectively, and saved contacts to SD. Is there anything else that needs to be backed up?

I'm simply going to follow the instructions to partition the card and flash the rom in the final step...right?

you do not need to partition the card for every rom, only some of them. What rom are you flashing?

and you seem to have everything backed up well enough.

^ lol, beat me to it.....

Yes, U may not even need to partition ur sd card, depending on the rom u choose, or how many apps u plan to dload.... after u get that part figured out, just do a wipe in recovery (factory/data reset, cache, and dalvik cache) then flash away..... to avoid any issues, I usually wipe everything in the wipe menu except sd card, and wimax(if using cwm) twice... just to be safe

Mik3d is amazing. Unless you are going to be loading a ton of apps, don't bother to partition your SD card. If you expect to be using over say 25 apps you might consider it. Also be aware that partitioning your card WILL ERASE EVERYTHING ON IT!!! So back it up to your hard drive first :)

To add a few quick clarifications on my personal opinions. Restoring your contacts from SD card and your sms with SMS backup is good, but I personally like to redo my apps by hand (IE: Redownload from market).

Also what class and size SD card do you have?

I'll definitely be using more than 25 apps. I have backed up the SD card on my computer. So after partitioning and flashing the Mik3D ROM I simply just recopy the backed up SD data back to the SD card?

Are you familiar with the SD Card partitioning methods? Such as the class of SD card expected and that you should use ext3?

The only dumb question is one that is not asked.

Did you buy your SD card at the store or is it the one that came with the phone?

Typically the Class of the SD card is written on the card itself by way of a capitol C with a number 2 4 6 10 inside of it. If there is no such notation on the card it is assumed to be class 2. For a2sd (the reason your partitioning) to work properly it is recomended to have class 6 or higher. Although some users state that 2 and 4 have worked for them. If you have a class 2 or 4 card the only way to be sure is to try and find out.

The standard SD card that comes with the phone is 8gb class 2.

Ocn is great at creating guides you should have no problems if you follow his guide properly.

As for the speed of the card, i suggest you give it a shot and if you notice your apps loading slowly then you might look into buying a faster SD card.

I would recommend MikG 2.5 over Mik3D. It has a lot of the cool features of Sense 3.0, but it runs a lot smoother IMHO. But ultimately, you'll probably end up like the rest of us and flash a rom every other day, so I'm sure you'll be able to decide for yourself :)

OK...I'm not going to partition the card, for now ;) You've got to learn to crawl before walking!

Any quick suggestions for kernels w/ Mik3D?

    Thanks for all your help!

My personal preference is Freedom 0.8.5, but with kernels its always YRMV. Try them all out for a day or two each and learn what one works the best for your phone.

Every phone is different, and will react differently to each kernel. I'm currently using Mik3D with Golden Monkey 1.1. I'm also using the V6 Supercharger script. My phone has zero lag, and runs damn near flawlessly. I've tried using the Freedom kernel, and my phone just doesn't like it. Super laggy. I have yet to try Chop Suey.

My suggestion, as I'm sure everyone else will suggest, is to download all 3 kernels (Golden Monkley, Freedom, and Chop Suey) and test each out for a bit. See which one is best for you and your phone.

do you have the pro key? if so you can do batch restores by hitting the menu button and then batch. then select restore all apps with data.

if you do not have the pro key then you select backup/restore tab at the top and restore each app individually.

I don't have the pro key. When selecting backup/restore tab none of the previously backed up apps are displayed, only stock apps on Mik3D. I checked the SD card and in the TB folder all of my old apps are there, so they were backed up.

    Any ideas?

Anyone know why I would have a weird sound coming from the speaker after flashing Mik3D?

It's the kind of sound the phone makes when loading up...any ideas?
