Fixing incorrect battery readings

My phone is showing incorrect battery charge percentage. For example, when it is on it shows 6% left, when I restart it or turn it off and plug in a charger, it shows 24%. So, I charge it to 92% (with the phone off) and when I turn it back on, it shows 84%. Is there a way to fix it? I mean the one that really works?

Sometimes letting it run until it shuts down (which I don't otherwise recommend) then charging until completely full (e.g. overnight) will help recalibrate. Otherwise, nothing I know of.

Calibration problems generally occur when the battery is quite old.

What phone do you have? Sounds like the battery is dying
