Fixing random data drops

So since running CM7 RC6 both with the MR1, leaked MR2, and official MR2, I've been experiencing random data drops where the signal goes to zero, and no data. It comes back within 1-2 seconds but still is annoying.

I've pulled the SIM and didn't change anything, and am thinking of reflashing the MR2 radio to see if that helps. Running on 3g, ill average about 1% data loss per hour.

Since this started, or at least since I first noticed, was when switching to AOSP, leading me to think its an RIL issue. However I don't hear of other people mentioning this, so thoughts?

Reflash the radio? Deal with it till AOSP ROMs are more polished, and see if it improves?

I've experienced this forever even when I was stock non-rooted

I began experiencing that with liquid thunderbread 2.3. It must be an aosp thing because my phone doesn't do that on bamf.

Yeah, again I can't say 100%, but I don't remember it happening when running sense based ROMs.

Just while typing this the data has dropped to zero three times. Just for a second or less but averaging roughly 1% each hour is pretty often at only a second or less at a time. Its not a deal breaker, but still annoying..

Maybe its time I jump back over to CM7, see if its at least a little less often.

    Four times, now..

Im going to flash a new rom tonight so I should know tomorrow if I am still affected I've only been on thunderbread since the new radio dropped. It could be a reporting thing since AOSP roms don't properly report signal strength

I think I'm going to as well yeahah. What are you going to try? I'm probably going to flash OMGB just to enjoy some pure AOSP, but will probably come back to OMFGB. I'm a sucker for the power toggles and couldn't live without them

I am gonna give the new gingeritis a try. Chingy's 3d rom was real nice to me maybe a more refined source will get me back into gb sense roms

I respect Chingy as a developer and have always been a fan of his ROMs, but now that we have solid AOSP builds, like my ex girlfriend, sense is dead to me :D

Lol sounds like she is in better standing with you than my wife to me (yeah some mistakes take a while to go away)

I'm not sure how long I can stay on sense I love the feel of AOSP

ive had data issues to a varying degree on pretty much every gingerbread rom ive run. ive had momentary loss like ibricks described, and ive had complete disapearance that requires anything from an airplane toggle to reboot to regain.

ive more or less chalked it up to buggy radios and leak roms, and not proper ril.

it has been much better for me lately with recent achievements of slayher and xoomdev on aosp. i dont spend more than a day or so on sense leaks, but its been better there as well,so im sure the official radio is helping.

im also not convinced that alot of the issues i was having were something to do with verizon "flipping the switch" on 4g here in dayton.

today, for example,on OMGB and the 627 radio,i didnt have one single issue with data loss. the hand offs seem maybe a lil slow, but that,if its not my imagination,is prolly more of an OMGB issue than a radio, network,or RIL issue. its only the first release.

I think you just talked me out of flashing it. I can deal with choppy netflix but my kids like dumb cartoons so I like netflix on my phone

    Well back on CM7..

We'll see how data goes tomorrow.

I just can't go back to anything but AOSP at this point and the options are pretty limited for stable daily drivers. Probably run CM for a week or so and hopefully another update is coming otherwise by then OMGB will have some more development time under it's belt. Thunderbread was nice and smooth, but I felt a little dirty running it.. I did like the built in fonts and boot screens though. Even if the boot screens were a little ghey..

lol i liked the boot screens as well, and i loved the translucent bacgrounds in contacts and on the power control widget. but i stopped running it for pretty much the same reason... felt a little like a traitor.

OMGB runs well. its incredibly snappy and smooth i cant think of any real reason that you shouldnt go ahead and run it now. i have been using it since it dropped sunday and i like it-plan on giving it a few more days for sure :) dont let my comment about sluggish handoffs scare you... its not like it takes 10 minutes, its more like 4-5 seconds, instead of 2-3 seconds. its not bad.

when i get the itch to flash, ill just run a sense rom for a day or 2. sense is fun in small doses and always makes me appreciate AOSP all that much more when i come back :D
