first boot after flashing a new rom can take longer then normal.give it at least 10 mins or so. and just an fyi, i would not use rom manager. it is very buggy. i would do everything manually. because when things go wrong and all you have is your recovery, you would know what to do. if you have any questions on how to use your recovery, this is a good place to ask it.

oh ok yeah all i know what to do with recovery is to install the rom again and basic stuff like what the menus say. but other than that i dont know much.i just install the rom manually and it worked. but before that people here said to jsut restore the nandroid made to other members. i believe i did but cant find it. anyways now that i have it working some tips using recovery would be nice and how to backup.

ok glad you got it working. first off you probably have clockwork mod 3.0.0.5 i believe. it uses a script called edify and is mainly meant to work with a non sense (aosp) rom called cyanogen mod. however, most other roms use a script called amend which your version of clockwork mod will not work with. there is another custom recovery out there that works with both scripts called amon ra. clockwork mod 2.6 also works with both scipts as well. so in order to be able to flash roms and not worry about if it is compatible with your recovery, you have two options:
    1. downgrade to clockwork mod 2.6 or
    2. you can switch recoveries to amon ra 2.3 (my recommendation)

you can get both in my sig ref#1. the link has instructions on how to install them. of course if you have any more questions you know what to do.:)

ok so is how would i remove clockwork and install amon ra 2.3?
is this what i will be using to flash new things manually?
and do i have to falsh every thing that i want to customize?
and last when putting zip files in root what does that mean? all i did was create a folder on my sd card called root and put my zip files there.

The AMON RA recovery is a PC36IMG.zip file. Root of your SD card refers to the 'top-level'

IE: When I put my flash drive in my windows computer, it is assigned say F:

F: is now root. My folder F:\Documents is a directory. makes sense?

I flashed amon ra right away, so I'd actually recommend backing up your nand. of stock rooted, just for safety sake. Then flash amon ra, and do another nandroid.

Yup, thing likes roms and kernels can be in folders but other things (namely anything named PC36IMG.zip) should be in the root of the sd card.

Well, first I would restore to your stock sense 2.2 rooted back up. Then check sound. If everything is working... then put the amon ra file in the root of your sd card. From there I'd let it install it (during the bootloader screen it will say something like "do you want to install this?" tell it yes.)

Then with amon ra installed and working, I'd make a nandroid of your stock 2.2 rooted just in case. Then you can flash away with your hearts desire.
(I don't think I missed anything, but I'd look over the rooting for dummies guide once again after reading this to see if that guide makes more sense)

Okay, I've never used Clockwork 3.0, but if you boot into the bootloader (vol down + power on), you should have a 'recovery' option or something similar. From there, you should see several options, such as flash , backup ... etc.

And if you made a nandroid backup of stock 2.2, then restore that. If not.. make a backup of whatever you're running now (looks like myns 2.2).

Okay, if you don't have a stock 2.2 backup that's fine, but at least have a backup of your current setup.

If that doesn't help, list your options from clockwork.

ok not exactly sure where you are at but here is the steps:
    to get recovery switched:
    1. first if you have not already done that make a nandroid backup in cloclwork mod. more on this later
    2. download PC36IMG_RA_2.3.zip
    3. rename the file PC36IMG. basically just delete the "_ra_2.3" part of the name. the main thing is that it needs to be named PC36IMG.zip exactly. Just remember not to add ".zip" as windows hides extensions so that it will be named "PC36IMG.zip.zip" which will not work.
4.transfer the renamed file to the root of your sd card (not in any folder just on your card)
    5. power off then press and hold power+vol down, hboot will scan for the file if is named correctly.
    6. it will ask you to update then press vol up for yes
    7. it will then ask you to reboot select no.
    8. go into your new recovery and select backup/restore and make a nandroid backup.
    9. then reboot and you should be good to go with your new recovery
your previous nandroid backup from clockwork mod will not work with amon ra.

    BOOM!
    ocnbrze coming in with step-by-step.
Yeah, you gotta watch out for the renaming. The file name needs to be exactly "PC36IMG.zip", so if you are in Win. 7 and possibly vista (?) watch out for hidden extensions. I think XP defaults to show the extensions.

thanks alot i got the ARMON working now. so before i put any roms on i should make a nandroid right?
there are multiple thing to check to back up like(boot, system ,data...etc) should i just check all of them and back all of it up or is it not necessary?
and will i be using this recovery to flash future roms and add ons?

Well, you should get the defaults (boot, system, data.. possibly one more) and 100% get wimax. You likely won't need sd or ext-partition. Those are for apps2sd (installing apps on the sd card and running them from it). But I would get everything but those for the first one. It'll make a file in the /nandroid/DEVICEID/DATE-TIME/ directory, well probably many files. system.img, data.img, etc. These are your nandroid backup. Copy this folder to your computer (while keeping it on the SD card), just for extra backup.

any time you make changes to your phone you should always make a nandroid backup. it is your friend. there have been so many times that something went wrong and all i had to do was go back to one of my backups and all is good. a nandroid backup is a snapshot of your phone. so it saves all your data and settings. so i have at least one backup that has wimax but everything else i just backup boot, system, data. just the first three is really all you need for now.

edit: oops 9to5 beat me to it. yeah it is a good idea to save them to your computer as well. especially the one with your wimax keys saved.

i have been going back and forth with cm7 and kings gb unleashed r3 (a version of cm7). my setup is in my sig. it really depends what you are looking for.

if you want sense then i would try mikfroyo 4.61 odexed, kings unleashed, koni's elite series iii.

if you are looking for something that is pure android with no htc sense then try aosp (android open source project) roms: cm7, and kings gb r3 or r4

you can get all the popular roms in my sig ref#2

also you may want to do some research on kernels. ref#3 also has some terms on kernels that will be helpful so that you will know what you are looking at. kernels are basically controls power between hardware and software. finding the right kernel can greatly increase your battery life. it is for this reason that i will not be switching to any sense roms because my aosp kernel has been giving me the best battery life. i had gone on one charge for all most 40 hrs. granted i really did not use it very much.

it could be a glitch or something. try going into recovery and wipe only dalvik cache and cache. reboot and see if that fixes it. if it does not, then try wiping system, dalvik cache and cache then re-flash your rom. hopefully that should fix it.

when you wipe system, dalvik cache and cache, it does not wipe your rom. it only wipes things that are not tied to the framework of the rom. when you reboot your phone has to build dalvik cache that is why it takes longer to boot sometimes, especially after you wipe it. sometimes errors can occur while building dalvik cache. sometimes you get errors in data. or an app can have errors in cache. this is why wiping can help.

just keep in mind that by wiping system you are also wiping data and thus will lose any settings or data you have on your phone. i only wipe system when i flash a rom. when bugs or glitches occur i only wipe dalvik cache and cache.
