Root FM radio in airplane mode?

Is this possible for when I am in an area with no Sprint coverage and the phone wastes a lot of battery trying to find a tower?

Thanks so much. I'm on stock so I downloaded that ROM and copied it's FM apk to my system folder and it works great in airplane mode!
