Hi guys, I'm new to this forum.

I'm using Samsung Galaxy Spica. But I have a problem with some things I dont want to share with with anybody.
Some of my personal pictures, documents etc. I dont want them to be seen by others when they use/see my phone. Also I dont want some pictures to be shown in Gallery, so I need a password protected application for that* folder.

My friend suggested me to use B-Folders, as they lock folders. But I cant find it in Andoid Market.

Just for lock pictures, there are many apps in market, i.e.
    Photos Lock
    Photo Safe
    Gallery Private
    Pandora

My Stash is a container with password for any kind of files (like B-Folders).

With App Protector you can protect a whole app.

... you have to decide :)

B-folders seems incredibly complicated....Mystash has bad reviews, and also seems complicated and does more than i require.
I just want to create a password protected folder on SD card...is there no file managers out there that do that?
Don't want to protect an APP.

I used MyStash until I found File Explorer PRO.
File Explorer PRO is easy to use (like MyStash).
It creates a virtual encrypted folder on the SD card.
In this folder you shove your files ... voila :)

App Protector on occasion fails without notice. Three-four times for me. A reset always brings it back to proper operation.

    Thanks Harry2, will try.
Note to Benjie: this isn't and wasn't an App Protector thread, if you have issues search/post elsewhere.

If you put all the photos in a folder that has a name starting with a . Eg .privatephoto they won't show up in the gallery or on the stock file manager, but they will show up in file managers like Astro.

If you're looking to hide pictures and video's, VAULTY is excellent, and extremely simple to use.

if you want to hide pictures or videos from showing in the gallery, simply create a folder on your sdcard called ".nomedia" (without the quotes) in the same folder where these pictures videos are. Android will not index any files that are in the same location as that folder.

sajjadnahd....as i said B-folders seems incredibly complicated, and likely difficult to explain, try and find a website for it.
8Ball and supremebeaver both provide naming style for a folder that android doesn't pick up, what i think they both should have said, but implied (maybe somebody will confirm), is that a folders name with a full-stop in front is not detected by android, therefore it can be named as you wish!

i think you're wrong there because right now i have three folders on the root of my sd card that start with a full stop. Yet the gallery can see all the media. It has to be named ".nomedia".

I think i should mention something that happened to my phone a week or so ago regarding the nomedia thing. I created the .nomedia folder on the root of my sdcard, and that caused the gallery app to pick up NONE of the media on my whole phone. That's because android doesnt scan for media in the same location as the folder, and within folders in that location. At that time i thought it wont scan for media within that nomedia folder only. So if you plan to use this route, dont make the mistake i did because i was pulling my hair out trying to figure it out.

Folders (which free choosed names) which start with a full stop aren't "seen" by the stock media player (like folders with the file .nomedia aren't seen).

If you create such a folder for testing you have you use the app SDrescan.
This app does the index freshing for the media player.
Every time you change media folders/media files on the SD card you have to run SDrescan.

This is what I tried to explain earlier (maybe I was not clear). It will not only hide what is in that folder, but also what is in the same location. In other words put the nomedia folder in the same location as the files you want to hide, but not within it. Hope you understand.

Is there an android app that will just lock a folder with a simple password? No hiding things, no complicated renaming or moving - just lock it so someone can't open it. They can see the folder exists, they just can't get in it. Sort of like what Smart App Protector does for app icons sitting on your desktop. But for folders.
    Just folders.
    Locking only.
    No hiding.
    No renaming.
    Real simple.
    Lock.
    Folder.

    Do I sound frustrated? ;)

Try "Super Vault". It can lock photos, videos, files with an easy to use interface.

    my Momma's ^&^
If you want you can just arrange all your "private" photos in a folder, then put a file named ".nomedia" inside that folder.
Then you can just use an app locking application and lock your file explorers or any other app that you want to lock. This is useful for me because I also lock my sms apps. haha. I end up using only one app to do both

I looked into these apps that were mentioned above, File Explorer PRO, My Stash, B-Folders, VeryAndroid File protector, KeyPassDroid, they all seem to be crap. I spent hours reading around on the web and just can't seem to get a direct simple answer to the question, that results in a good app.

Just an app that will password protect a specified folder of ANY kind of file, so that no one, not even hackers or anything or anyone at all can see the contents of that folder.

Or better yet, is there an app that can password protect an entire partition on an sdcard ?
