Open Folderorganizer and create some Labels. They are effectively folders. You can change the icons for these labels to your hearts content. Then you can tag applications with labels in Folderorganiser, which adds them to the 'Folder'. Finally, all you need to do is long press on the home screen, tap shortcuts, choose Folderorganizer Label, and add it. Viola, a folder with a custom icon.

It took me the best part of a week to realise you could even do that with Folderorganiser, I had no idea what the labels were for to start off with. We all have to learn sometime. :p

you can even create your own icons using photoshop or similar, as folderorganiser can use picture files as icons

Whilst this works well I think it is better to add them as widgets rather than shortcuts. That way if you decide to change the icon again within FolderOrganizer it updates automatically without having to remove and re-add the shortcut. It also allows you to remove the text under the icon if you want to.

The latest version of FolderOrganizer also includes some larger widget options which can include a number of items.

Down to personal preference really. I'm using launcherpro so don't have the text under icons anyway, so doesn't make any odds for me. :)

    :O

I didn't realise that!!! Been using shortcuts because when I first got the app, it didn't have the option to use widgets, when introduced i stayed in my old ways!

Likewise, I have something I've been trying to do with FolderOrganizer for a while, but can't quite figure out how.

I know that FolderOrganizer can create shortcuts to direct dial and direct SMS contacts, but can it put these shortcuts into a folder? Ideally, I'd like to have two widgets on a home screen, the top one containing shortcuts to direct dial people, and the bottom one containing shortcuts to directly SMS those same people. Is this possible?

I think this is what you want to do: In Folderorganizer, create a label called "Text" or something, then navigate to Contacts. Find the contact you want and click the arrow at the left side of their name. A list will appear with each of their numbers, and a separate option to call, text or email that contact's number. Click the arrow at the right side of the contact's text option and assign it to the "Text" label.

When you add the shortcut to "Text" on your Homescreen, you should have one-click access to their text screen.

It's the same for a call list.

I just bought Folder Organizer :) I have Apps Organizer so I was wondering if I really need it now that I have Folder Organizer? I thought Apps Organizer is the free version of Folder Organizer but the free version is Folder Organizer Lite. The only thing that I find Apps Organizer useful is to create labels and it seems that Folder Organizer does that. Is there any features in Apps Organizer not in Folder Organizer? :)

    Thanks in advance,
    -Roze-

As far as I can see FolderOrganizer does everything. I had Apps Organizer and Bookmarks Organizer but I uninstalled them both as I realised I was duplicating effort and storage space.

The only advantage of keeping Apps Organizer is maybe that the user interface is easier to negotiate but once you know what you are doing on FolderOrganizer it's great.

hi could somebody help me - I've just started using folder organizer tonight...

I wanted to download some new icons and set up an alternative scene on sense, so I can switch between 2 as and when I fancy a change.

If for example I change the icon for facebook in folder organizer, will this change the icon on both scenes? As I would want to use different icons for each scene.

Also, I tried creating a new label which I called 'facebook' and assigned the facebook application to this label. When I added this as a shortcut on the home screen it opened up a folder view first with facebook there to be chosen. Is there a way of getting it to open the application straight away without the sub view if I am only assigning one app to that label?

Sorry to ramble, hope it makes sense (excuse the pun)

I'll try to answer your questions from my experience. For the icons, you need to make folder organizer icons for each launcher. A tip I picked up from a member here is that instead of creating a shortcut, you create a widget, when you change the icons, it will automatically change in your homescreen. You need to select 'forlder organizer item' to have it open the application and not the folder.

Good instructions. I've been struggling to add Direct <action> to Labels because they don't show when I try add them as items to the label (from the label tab). I just get an empty list, with an OK and cancel button (have mailed the dev to ask if its a bug). Should have been obvious, but I hadn't thought to go the 'other' way for some reason

    @ lost desire,
I tried creating this shortcut, but the mobile network settings is indeed not showing although bluetooth settings and wifi settings are there.

I'm not sure if there's a better way to do this... but if you're using LauncherPro, here's a workaround that I found...

In the shortcuts tab of FolderOrganizer, create a new shortcut to Activities -> Settings -> Wireless and Network Settings, then proceed with customizing the shortcut's name, icon, etc.

    Thanks
I have just tried this but it either gives me a shortcut/ widget to "Wireless & Network Settings" & or when i browse through the folder there is not an option for shortcut/widget for "Connect to Mobile Network" & "Connect to GPS" :(

    Hi
I've done this but can't sort by starred contacts at the top. Starred worked when using the default contacts label, but after creating a new label and adding direct contacts then going into starred items at top and my contacts already starred it doesn't sort them with starred at the top.

I want to use Folder Organizer (I bought the full version) to clean up my android desktop and put the icons into folders, but even after checking the forums for this app, for example:

    http://androidforums.com/android-applications/133675-folder-organizer.html
That says, "you can tag applications with labels in Folderorganiser, which adds them to the 'Folder'. Finally, all you need to do is long press on the home screen, tap shortcuts, choose Folderorganizer Label, and add it. Viola, a folder with a custom icon."

But these directions do not work because when I follow them, (I have already created labels for all of my apps) I long press on the home screen, which does not bring me to shortcuts but instead brings me to 6 apps on my phone including Folder Organizer, so I tap that, and then shortcuts, and it does not give me an option to create a shortcut on my desktop, it only gives me an option to create a shortcut for individual apps, which do not even show up on my desktop.

Please help, how do I create an icon/folder that holds all similar apps (replacing the originals with the folders) on my desktop so that I don't have to scroll through 50 unorganized apps?

    Thank you!
    CC

I created a label for a set of programs that I am using (not one of the stock ones in FO). My problem comes in getting the icon for the label/folder. Ideally, I am looking for an icon for the label to be one from a program that I have already placed within that label/folder. I would not prefer to start downloading icon packs when a perfectly good icon that I would prefer is in my Epic.

When I press on the icon selecter, my choices are:

    Default icons
    Android Image Gallery
    AndExplorer
    Icon packs
    Show items in icon.

I have searched through each of these, and this did not turn up the icon. How can I find the icon, and use it? I tried using Astro to conduct a search, but I am not sure how to go about this. (Is it a .png file?)

Thanks for any help you can provide.

If you have already set up your labels, you should be able to add a shortcut to a folder by:
-long pressing on your home screen
    -selecting "Shortcuts"
-scrolling down and selecting "Folder Organizer Folder link"
-tapping on the label you want to add

these steps seem to work fine for me.

    @roroy:
Open up Folder Organizer and click on Prefs. From there, check the "Use custom skin" box, then tap "Choose folder skin" -- click "Pick" next to Background Start and select your first color (make sure to use the sliders, as tapping on the color wheel didn't seem to work for me). If you want a gradient effect, select another color for "Background end".

    @Howard Packer:
I ran into the same problem, and solved it (sort of) by downloading individual icons as .png files (so you don't have to download entire icon packs) then using the Android Image Gallery option to set them as the folder icon. I assume apps hide their official icons in some deep dark corner where we can't steal them. ;)
