I did 2.2 through the download, battery life has sucked since. Now I am getting a refurb from insurance as I dropped mine about four feet to concrete driveway while getting out of my truck and the sceen is cracked bad. Just to note the phone works fine and the best screen protector i have ever owned (Skinomi) is holding the glass together and touchscreen works fine. BTW did everyone know that VZ Ins. through Assurion has a $90 decuctible for advanced devices? Places around here want $100 for the repair and I have seen screens for $50 but I didn't want to do it myself. No 2.2 on the refurb until all problems are figured out.

Well I am certainly very very sorry I did this reset. Alot of widgets and apps are no longer working. I lost a couple of apps and I cant recall what they are called.

    Epic fail.

It appears all the battery problems, at least as far as I have seen, are fixed by a factory reset. It's most likely just a bunch of random software problems caused by the overlay install (ever do a Windows upgrade over your old version? It never works right).

So if you do get a phone with 2.1, my recommendation would be to update to 2.2 first before you do anything else. That being said, it will probably already have 2.2 on it when you get it.

And yes, the insurance has a $90 deductible for all "smart" phones. I think it's $50 for other phones. Still beats $500 for a new one. I plan on canceling mine once I approach the first year of ownership. After that I'll qualify for another new phone at the discounted contract price. I'd rather pay $200 for a brand new "whatever cool phone is out now" than $90 for a refurbished Incredible at that point.

Yes, factory resetting your phone and somehow not realizing you would have to reinstall and reconfigure your apps when you were done is indeed an epic fail.

I haven't turned on the replacement phone but I did note it is not a refurb unless they are putting refurbs in the full retail box along with a sealed manual, sealed desktop charger, and a sealed batt. , and the peel off OEM protector that came on my orig. phone. The date on the factory label is 8/31.

I updated via RUU. After turning off some of the unnecessary notifications and reducing the high rate of syncing, I have experienced insanely good battery life compared to before update. After update, NFL mobile app no longer plays live when I have wifi on. Anyone else having same issue..not that I expect too many football fans in here:)

I was able to get them all back but now the phone is just wreaking havoc. Constanly crashing. My contacts have been all out of whack. This has been a nightmare of a day for me.
Im about to do ANOTHER factory reset in hopes it fixes all my issues.

Mine seems to be running slower and has some other qurks since the upgrade to 2.2, such as the screen unlock seems to be slow and sticky and so does the pull down screen; when I open messages or email in portrait the messages are shown in landscape (odd) - battery life wasn't great with 2.1 and seems to be just as bad with 2.2. That said, I think this is a great phone! And I have to admit some of the 2.2 upgrade are pretty cool! I love the LED flashlight. But I am thinking about going back to 2.1.

Can anybody provide step by step instructions to downgrade to 2.1?

Agreed. I posted a mile long step by step how to reset. So you wouldn't run into that problem.

Something is definitely wrong. This all sounds like software problems. Did you try to do anything funky like preserve app data or something where you might have old data trying to work with newer versions of apps you reinstalled?

I would definitely do another reset if I were you and take it slow reinstalling your apps. Just setup your accounts first and make sure everything is syncing and running properly, then install one or two apps at a time and retest, etc, etc.

If you're phone behaves like this before you install any third party apps, something is definitely wrong with it.

Have you done a factory reset after the update? All performance problems seem to be a result of fubar overlay installs. A nice clean start with 2.2 seems to show much better performance for just about everybody (assuming you discount the performance hit you'll take viewing flash heavy websites, which should be expected as you're asking the phone to do a lot more work than it was before viewing those sites....still beats not being able to use flash sites at all).

We pay good money for our phones and services rendered. I pay them every month with no hassles and they provide us with crappy upgrades and sometimes crappy service every month because they chose to push this update. A law suite might light a fire under some of these manufactures butts and send a signal to all. I'm tired of the crap they're putting out there for the money we pay. Grow a spine and speak up about bad consumer products instead of being one of the sheep in the herd. I'm not talking about gouging HTC and VZW for big cash, just under the lime light and pressure to honor their part of the deal.

I was experiencing battery problems after manual installation of the update. Went thru one 3500mah and two 1500mahs In one day. Factory reset and the batteries last much longer now. Do it.

    • 720p video capture
    • LED flashlight and video light
    • new messages widget
    • addressed screen response bug when set on table and using one hand.
    • I personally haven't had battery drain issues caused by the upgrade.
    • task switcher now shows 8 instead of 6 most recent apps.
    • Nexus live wallpaper.

    Dislikes
    • Facebook events on calendar start and end an hour late.
    • frequent lag when typing.
    • occasional loss of typing vibration.
    • I seem to have lost the ability to keep my display awake with desk/night clock modes after update.
    • holding down mic button no longer opens up keyboard options.

    Things still lacking
    • backing up and restoring is still a much bigger pain in the ass than with a BlackBerry.
    • Facebook for HTC Sense still requires account removal and resin to update pictures and cannot override Facebook picture.
    • still requires names from contacts to be added to custom dictionary.
    • no search in custom dictionary. Scrolls back to top after deleting an entry.
    • needs third party apps to dim softkey backlight.
    • can adjust flashlight brightness, but not video light brightness.
    • no camera presets.
    • no option for birthday notifications

I'm sure theres more that I can add to all three lists. Just cant think of it now.

Wifi is causing the battery problems for me. I thought that wifi was suppose to be better than 3g? I get about twice as much battery life when I don't have wifi on now, and I don't think it is suppose to be like that. I'll have to go up to the Verizon store soon and see what they say.

so does doing a factory reset basically take the Inc back to 2.1?

If you have a wifi network available (like at home) having wifi on will improve battery life. When wifi is on and connected, 3G shuts down. 3G uses more energy than wifi, thus your battery improves.

    No.

Small issue with 2.2 upgrade....PDF Viewer has lost its "View...Reformatted" options. There's no "View" option at all! At least on mine, there aint. This was a great little function. Anyone else have this experience? Any idea how to get it back? (I've tried other programs and none have the comparable functionality as yet.)

    I'm surprised.

When you have a network connection on wifi, the 3G icon goes away as it drops its 3G signal. Now think about that. What's the range of Wifi? About 50-100ft depending on obstructions. What's the range of 3G? About 5 miles depending on obstructions.

Now you figure out which one takes more power.
