If people think back to launch day Handcent had just released a new version and it wasn't showing in the market. Many of us got the .apk manually from multiple sources and installed it. I found today that it wasn't syncing with the markets automatic update notifications.
So for anyone who got and installed it on release day the same way, an update is available to 3.1.1 I found it via the updates shown from AppBrain. The only real noticeable change is adding contact pictures to the message windows. And it lists half a dozen or so fixes for known bugs.
