Figure i'd post this in a new thread so it doesn't get overlooked in the droid root thread.

    Download it here: https://android.clients.google.com/updates/voles/signed-voles-ESD56-from-ESD20.84263456.zip

    How to install:

    1. rename to update.zip
    2. put in root of sd card
    3. turn off phone
    4. boot into recovery http://alldroid.org/viewtopic.php?f=210&t=503
    5. install update.zip
    6. ????
    7. profit!

Thanks Tabs for this info ^

    Couple of tips:

Enjoy :) Thanks to "lostboykev" over at AllDroid.org - Index page for the file.

Admin edit. Leave in tact: The original poster's instructions are #9 on this thread, [he deleted]. They are possibly more complete (for a beginner). At the time of this edit, they said:
    2.0.1 forced update:

    download: https://android.clients.google.com/updates/voles/signed-voles-ESD56-from-ESD20.84263456.zip

    Rename to update.zip

Copy to you SD card as "update.zip". Check your windows options, it if appears as just "update" get into windows and fix this.

Power off y0ur DROID, top key, hold it down and then select the menu option to turn it off.

Wait a bit for it to actually power off.

    Open the physicial keyboard.

Power back on with this: hold the the X key on the keypad and THEN, OR at the same TIME, next hold the power button (top right button).

When you see a "/!\" symbol, press and hold first vol+, and then hold down the camera button.
Keep holding it down for a bit... maybe 15-20 seconds IIRC...
Alternative, there's reports that you have to do it fast, or do it at the same time.
We simply, and calmly did the vol+, and the did the camera button... 2 seconds or less in the process?

    Once the menu shows....
Use the dpad to select the SD UPDATE.ZIP

Wait until the progress bar goes all the way.

When it's done hit the Dpad button, up top it says to hit it to reboot now.

Enjoy the new lockscreen and 2.0.1 goodness after reboot!

    alostpacket Over Macho Grande?

What does the "factory reset/wipe phone" step do (if anything)?

ie do you lose any settings when upgrading?

lol for real? I'm guessing it wipes the phone, but I may be wrong.. :p

And nope I didn't lose any settings or apps or anything for that matter.

Is this the exact same update that we would download eventually from the OTA update? Just earlier?

I'm not going to try this, but I would imagine you do NOT want to do a factory reset/wipe. There is probably another option there to select an upgrade file.

When you do Upgrade from SD or whatever it says you won't loose anything, if you choose Wipe, then it will do that, Wipe the phone and you will loose everything.

Yeah this is the same update, downloaded straight from Google. I performed it on my phone, and now have 2.01 and the new unlock screen and everything. Confirmed working, no draw backs.

    Boot while holding down X
Then when you get to the caution screen (triangle with a !), press Vol + and Camera Button
Select Update from SD card "update"

    When done, reboot.

yes, put the update.zip in the root of your sd card.
    then turn off the phone
power on while holding "x" down
then press volume up and the camera button at the SAME time.

you should then see something like "apply update.zip from sd?" hit that..don't choose wipe device or your phone will be wiped lol

What am I supposed to rename? Because by renaming just the folder it gives me an error. I don't know what to do!

I just ran this, and I can CONFIRM that it works. While the site does say on Step 4. Select "Wipe Data/Factory Reset" from Alldroid.org, that option is there, but OBVIOUSLY you don't pick that, you select SD CARD UPDATE.ZIP (which is option 2 i think, option 1 is just to reboot). Took me about 3 minutes. It's been 5 minutes, and boy right away I can tell, no chopiness in switching screens, and no lag in bringing down notification bar.

I followed these exact instructions from another thread (I edited the grammar :p):

    Rename signed-voles-ESD56-from-ESD20.84263456.zip to update.zip

Copy it to the root of your SD card

Power off your DROID and power back on while holding the X key on the keypad.
When you see a "/!\" symbol, press both vol+ and camera.

Use the dpad to select the SD UPDATE.ZIP (2 option i think)

Wait until the progress bar goes all the way.

When it's done hit the Dpad button up top it says to hit it to reboot now (1st option I think).
