Hello. While in my car, using Ford Sync, I stream music from my 3VO via bluetooth. Apparently there is a feature where the music is allowed to start up automatically when the phone and car discover each other (even if the car radio source is NOT set for bluetooth). Very convenient in some instances, where in others it's annoying. I've searched for a setting but I wear glasses for a reason and don't see things as most would. Am I missing a setting somewhere, or do I just need to delete the stock app go on to something in the market? Any help would be appreciated.

(Mods, if I missed a similar thread elsewhere, please move, merge or otherwise. I did look, but see above concerning my vision challenges!)

you can set your handset in the bluetooth setting to not "auto connect" and it should prevent this. however it will also prevent it from "auto connecting" if you want it to.

sounds more like an issue on the ford sync end.. perhaps a setting on HOW it behaves/interacts with BT enabled devices.

curious, what handset did you use prior to the htc evo 3D? did it exhibit the same behavior?

That sounds pretty spot on. There is probably a setting somewhere within the car's system that can be changed so it does not automatically pair itself with a remembered device. The downside is you might have to go through the re-pairing process every-time you want to use the Sync feature (same as if you set your phone's Bluetooth to not be discoverable). Or maybe there is a setting to not automatically resume the last playback.

Maybe I am naive, but if the music application is completely not running in Android how can it all of a sudden just start playing by itself. I could just be out of touch with the current car technology though - Mine's from 2004. (I'll tell you I don't want anything to have that kind of access to my phone)

I'm shooting from the hip here, but I wonder if you make sure you are completely exited out of the Android music player (maybe end it in the program manager) if it will prevent it from playing music right away when you enter your car. Maybe it is trying to pick up from where it left off last. So imagine you have a song mid play and you exit your vehicle and the song pauses, the next time you get in the car it is going to try to resume from where it left off? The music application gets cached in the background of Android and once you get back in the car, Sync requests the Music application back up right away to resume from where it left off? If it is cached in the background Sync can request it to play, but if it is not in the current Android memory cache Sync can't fulfill the resume play request?
I don't mind being wrong, I just fling out ideas. Someone will surely be along that has better, personal knowledge.

Here are some links to follow and read on the subject. Apologies if they're a dead end. Hope they help.

Good stuff in there Mon! Its easy to forget what a breadth of knowledge this entire site has when you factor in all the different forums. Especially in the second link, I vaguely remember that thread when it was posted. Toad see this post from it: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-support-troubleshooting/94610-evo-ford-sync-anyone.html#post2364542 It alludes to a Sync setting like Marc mentioned and I seconded. Unfortunately there is not more detail in the post, and it was the user's only post ever. I'm sure if you look around a bit you can find the correct Sync settings though. Maybe if you find it you can post instructions or a more detailed guide to turn it off, for others.

Yeah there is a setting in the Media Player section or the Phone Section on Sync to auto play bluetooth device or something along those lines. I will go look at mine when I get a second and put the exact section but it is a Sync thing not the phone.

I had a  Palm Pre  *hanging head in shame* and as long as the player app was open, it did the same.

Which is why I asked the question. I am 99.99% sure I made sure at least one time I was completey out of the player (using the task manager), just so it wouldn't happen. And I thought that if I used a different source (i.e., radio), the car wouldn't "pull" it on. But still...

I believe this is the case, and as I listen to audio books while I travel alot, this is extremely convenient, as long as the player app was open. Once it closed, it closed and there was no bookmark, etc to mark my last spot.

I'd rather have it playautomatically than to go through the pairing process again and again. So, I'm not complaining. :)Just figured I was missing something. Appreciate the help!:D

No apologies necessary. This one http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/25492-ford-sync.html, mentions my exact issue, including calling it annoying. So at least I know I'm not "alone" in annoyance! Appreciate the assist!:D

Ok depending on your version of Sync try this: Press Menu and then Settings and then Media Player and turn Auto Play to OFF. That may work.

Well I thought it had worked, until I climbed in the car this morning, then lo and behold, Skillet starts up (there are worse thigns to happen :D). Now I was playing with Morty audio book reader right before I climbed in the car, but I did confirm auto-play was off on MS Sync.

So it appears I still have my semi-annoyance. I'll keep plugging, but if there are ay other hints, they are surely welcome!:)

    A little more info:
This morning, I got into the car, and got music from the player, without doing a thing (car audio source was still set for BT audio). I was using MortPlayer audio book player (with widget) listening to a book most of the day. When I paused the app, it picked right back up where I left automatically (desirable). Sometimes, I stopped the app and still had no music when cranking the car back on.

When I got back to hotel this afternoon, I stopped the player, killed the car and opened the door (stopping Sync and disconnecting BT), then here comes Skillet again, only through the phone only (BT disco'd). This effectively puts the onus of my annoyance on the player itself rather than Sync, although Sync is a trigger, for sure. I'm starting to lean to it being a controller issue, much like http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-3d/364209-head-phones-causing-songs-fast-fwd-skip.html, but it may be purely coincidental.

I also tried removing the Music widget, but music still started playing. I've installed Music Player Folder Free and will start using that and set it for default MP3 player and see if that has any affect. I don't see the issue on the syncmyride forums, so maybe I'm just "special!"

i work at a ford dealer and it sounds like you have sync set up to act the way that you want it to and it is something wrong with the app. then again some apps or phones and sync dont get along. for instance sync and lg are no bueno and nothing but issues for some reason

I suppose I'm just going to have to live with this annoyance. I've uninstalled any (and all) downloaded players that might have caused this issue. I've upgraded the Sync software, and still when I get in the car, here comes the music. If I have Pandora or another app (book reader) paused, the paused app starts right back up when BT connects again, which, of course, is highly desirable.

It doesn't appear the HTC music app is the culprit as even other apps at least start upon connection, if the music doesn't start. Unless the other apps rely upon the HTC music app for basic operations, of course, then it may be the proverbial pain in the :D My guess is that when the phone and the car connect via BT, something is getting interpretted as a "start" signal and there she goes.

So, I'll live with this, and hope that somewhere down the line, I'll find a solution. Thanks to all! :)

I have had this issue too with a 2011 Ford F150. The best thing I have found to do is on the phone... go into bluetooth settings and then under the bluetooth device list of previously pared devices hold down on the sync one to bring up a menu and choose options. Then uncheck the media (use for media audio) and that seems to fix it. I have to re-enable it to stream pandora but it seems to keep the phone working and the music app from randomly launching.

Thanks! It's good to know that I'm not the only one with the issue... Now that I've gotten somewhat used to it, it's not as much an annoyance as before, although if I have passengers and still outside the car with it running and have the phone in my pocket.... :D! Anywho, I travel enough that I'd rather deal with the auto-play than have to change settings every time. Thanks for the info, though...

I do find it curious, though, that even if the cars stereo is set for radio, the music app opens, though doesn't play. It must be in the way the Sync and the 3VO handshake and connect, and maybe there's a bit that's byting off more than it can chew...
