This weekend, i purchased a 2012 Ford Fusion. It is equipped with Sync, but not MyFord Touch.

I've successfully paired my nexus with the system. I can make and receive calls, download contacts, and play music.

What i can't get to work is text message support. I understand this requires Bluetooth MAP. I have 4.4.2 on my phone and i believe this update brought MAP support, right?

Any ideas why it isn't working?

Also, if i try to use usb mode, it won't play any music.

Does Ford have a supported devices list on their site?

Just over a week ago we purchased a Mazda CX-5 GT AWD. The Nexus 4 was supported for everything but text. However, upon syncing, all my text messages were downloaded and can be read fine by the vehicle.

Text wasn't listed as supported, but I've read various reports of people it working now after KitKat dropped(MAP profile support).

UPDATE: I did get the texting to work. I thought that just enabling MAP in the SYNC settings would work, but I actually had to unpair and delete the phone from the car. Then I repaired and my phone asked for permission to share text messages with the car. All is well now. What does suck is that Ford only has a list of pre-written text messages you can send.

I'm not saying this to be an ass however, a programmer friend of mine said the software in Ford's are MS based, at least the Sync version was.

He literally had to reboot his Ford to start it when it was having issues. His car didn't start so he had to disconnect the battery for a few minutes, reconnect and start with battery only, wait for the on-board comp to finish, once done he shutdown, then start the car as per normal. :/

Yeah, Sync is def. a Microsoft technology. Did his have the MyFord Touch? That seems to be the more troublesome version. Mine is just Sync w/o MyFord Touch. I've heard Windows Phone works great with it, but I don't want to make that switch, lol. For now I'll just play my music off of a thumb drive, while using BT to make calls and hear my texts.

The car is a 2012 with 18,000 miles. I have an extended bumper-bumper warranty until 2019 and 100,000 miles.

He has the Sync, not sure which version. I'm trying to find out who makes the software in the CX-5, just curious.

Understood about the WinPhone, I had one for a short time, the Nokia 920 with Mango, nice phone but, the tiles just didn't appeal.

The CX-5 has a USB with thumb drive as well, it's my first car with one. This time around I got it fully loaded :D

Bought mine with the standard warranty which is 3yrs / 80,000KM and have the option of up to 3 years (with no penalty) to extend that to as high as 7yrs / 160,000KM.

I think the Mazda uses a different system, despite sharing some components with Ford. This is my first car with a factory usb slot. My old Firebird had a Kenwood stereo that i installed that had a usb port. I loved it. I sold that car 5 years ago, and have missed having it. My last car had a JVC unit that just had a line in jack. Terrible sound quality IMO. It always had a slight feedback, which got worse with my nexus.

Just some info, Mazda and Ford split ways about 3 years ago. The CX-5 is 100% Mazda, chassis, engine, etc. are all new design. I did a simple Google on the software, no luck, I'll have to dig more ;)

I like the 9 speaker Bose system that came with it, the USB is tucked away in a compartment so the USB stick is semi-concealed. I'm spoiled with this car for sure :)

Been there, done that on My CMax Energi with My Ford Touch. I LOVE the car but the Navigation sucks. KK did finally bring back the text message feature after thousands of us screamed at Google for over a year. I have no problem playing music through BT, though. I have an N5 now, but did have an N4 for at least the first 8 mos of ownership and BT music worked.

Interesting. I knew about the split (although Ford did retain a small, non controlling interest), they have continue to work together on some cars. I guess where the CX5 is new, then it would very likely be a pure Mazda product. The Mazda 6, at least until recently shared a platform with the Fusion, and used the same V6 engine as the Mustang. This is something i want to look into further.

The wife just got a 2012 Ford Escape and I was able to sync my phone but calls only work with the phone's original number, it doesn't work with Google Voice. I don't think it have the MyFord Sync but it is fully loaded.

Does anyone know if Sync can be used with Google Voice?

    Thnx.
