Tomorrow (Saturday the 23rd) my favorite channel is doing its "Saturday Stack" on Freddie Mercury and Queen. (*Be still my heart!*) They'll have concerts and coverage of various albums. Well worth a watch if you're a music fan interested in seeing the greatest front-man in rock and roll history. :D

It's AXSTV, which is on channel 340 on DirecTV, and the shows start at 9:00am California time. Check your listings if you're interested; my DVR is set!

Bring on the slating as every time I've said Queen were so much better than the Beatles that's what I get. Friendly conversations between friends have turned into them turning blue in the face shouting at me because of it. I really don't care. Let them shout because I know I'm right. Always feel a little bit of pitty and calm them down though or killer queen would have a different meaning. Anywho We are the Champions ;)

I'd agree with that, but I don't think I'm brave enough to say it out loud. ;)

Most people I know don't really care or know one way of the other about Queen or the Beatles. Myself I prefer to listen to the Rolling Stones

Go on, say it out loud and you'll feel better. On a side note you're not a lunatic until you've said that :D;)

I'm a huge, mega, ultra, loyal Beatles fan from childhood--and if push comes to shove, I have to rank them the best all-time. Their contributions to music and pop culture just can't be denied. The composing duo of Lennon/McCartney is unmatched.

But none of that means I can't love Queen! I love them so much I named my last two Great Danes "Freddie Mercury" and "Queen." :D

As mentioned, I consider Freddie Mercury THE greatest front-man ever. His Live Aid performance will still be talked about a hundred years from now as the best ever.

It's a bit like comparing apples and oranges, you know? They're different, but they're both wonderful and can both be appreciated and enjoyed. :)

Exactly. We like what we like. I could never say the Beatles are bad as I like a few of their songs. It's just to me that Queen have been more to my taste. You really would be surprised how defensive some get about that comment though :D

Meh...people find things to get defensive about, you know? Screw 'em!

There are many artists I love--and some songs from each I can do without. We like what we like!

Personally, I don't believe in getting all bent out of shape over pretty much anything. I figure we're all entitled to our opinions, and if ours were all alike, it'd be a pretty boring, dull world. I'm always happy to have an intelligent, rational discussion about anything, even hot-button topics where our opinions are diametrically opposed. Amazing what one can learn if they're just willing to listen with an open mind.

Really? I know you're in China, but both the Beatles and Queen are musical institutions, so I'm surprised by this.
I've never been a big Stones fan. There are some of their songs I like, and I even bought their infamous Sticky Fingers album as a kid--the one with the functioning crotch zipper. But I'd never go out of my way to attend a concert or anything.

Speaking of concerts, last fall I saw an ad for a Paul McCartney concert coming this summer to Dodger Stadium. American Express members could purchase tickets for a few days before the official start. I zoomed on over to the site and started to order tickets...then reality hit that I can't possibly go to a concert at Dodger Stadium. (I'm still basically housebound.) Everyone I told about it said "it's no big deal--we'll take you in your wheelchair!", but I said no. :(

I love that Sir Paul McCartney is an outspoken animal rights activist and vegan--like me! :D

Honestly never been a huge fan of activists. A lot of them are over the top. I respect people's decision if they want to be vegetation or vegan. It's rarely the other way round (not always, my sister doesn't throw her vegetarianism in my face) though. They just tend to think somehow they're better than me. I do like this activist though

Yes, I've heard about that episode, but I've never seen it (never been a fan of the show).

When Linda died [of cancer], Paul vowed to carry on with her vegetarian/vegan food line; they've also contributed to cancer research facilities that don't test on animals.

I fell in love with Paul as a little girl; you know, 'the cute Beatle' and everything. I love him now more than ever, because of his compassion for all sentient beings.

The funny thing is that the majority of vegans don't actually realise that palm oil is in most of their food

I'm not surprised, in fact from what I've seen more people know about and like Coldplay, the Carpenters, or Celine Dion in the PRC. There's really only one Queen song that many know here, We Will Rock You. :D

I have seen the Stones and Queen, when they came to Bristol in the 80s. No chance to see the Beatles, as I was only 6 when they broke up. :D
I'm not of course. But I believe the late Linda McCartney was as well, and she launched her own range of vegetarian or vegan foods and ready meals.

It's necessary at times--to be heard, to be seen, for facts about cruelty to be shown.
Not with me! :) While I wish everyone knew, and cared, about the heinous abuse of animals in the meat and dairy industries, I accept that not every omnivore is going to switch...yet. :D
You know, I really don't think that's what it is. It's more like "*I* learned the facts, why don't they?!" in a frustration way, not better than you way.
That was hilarious! Thanks for the link. I've never been a big Jim Carrey fan--even back in the In Living Color days--so I haven't seen that movie. I did like The Truman Show a lot; its whole premise was spooky and creepy, and made you wonder if something like that could really happen.

Excuse me? :) Every vegan I know--and that's in the hundreds of thousands, counting online--is not only aware of that, but also understands why, as a vegan food, it's a problem.

Very interesting. Is it due to government censorship in the past (present?) or something else? It's just hard for me to imagine an entire country not being affected by, or even aware of, Beatlemania in its heyday.
Okay, rub it in, I'm older than you... :p
Yes indeed she did, and Sir Paul vowed to continue it, and has. Also, all of their children, including fashion designer Stella, are vegan/vegetarian.

Same here, he just annoys me too. Although his darker side shows in a movie called "The Number 23" .
