Free public DNS server

    I have tried google free DNS server with my internet connection. But it does not increase my browsing or download speed. So why it is used?

    I've been using OpenDNS for pretty much 5 years now. You have to understand that DNS is used to get to a website thats it. It wont increase your download speed, it may decrease your response from servers time which will cause faster website loads. It'll be a difference of milliseconds so you most likely wont notice, but again, no download speed increase, sorry. Try OpenDNS though I love it, plus its an extra layer of protection =D.     Excellent explanation. Using an alternate DNS lookup from your ISP may decrease site resolving times, but we are talking likely milliseconds. It won't increase downloads/uploads/browsing by a noticable amount.

    I use OpenDNS as well, for the same reasons outlined there.
