Ok, forgive me if I seem stupid or if I over looked the answer but I want to flash this rom but I also want to flash the de lock update patch that takes the lock off the lock screen. I placed the zip file in the root of my sd card. I know it says to install as regular update.zip but when in recovery screen I choose update.zip it brings nothing up. Am I doing something wrong?

Use "Apply sdcard: choose zip" instead.

or, you can rename the update file "update"...whether that's the best way to do it or not, i dunno, but it worked lol
