Root From one ROM to another

Hi guys. I'm pretty new here (and to Android), so I hope this is okay.

I'm on Darky's 9.5 ROM now, and I want to flash Miui. Do I have to restore to the SGS firmware first so I can get Miui? If so, how do I do it? Will I have to do a data wipe? How do I back up my stuff? (I've tried Titanium Backup before, and it doesn't seem to work at all.)

I'd appreciate your input please!

Read the MIUI instruction thread. It tells you to flash CM7 base through Odin, which essentially wipes all traces of the previous rom away. So no, you don't need to go back to stock first.
